In honesty..just being there. And being around people who've known me longer than a year or two.

Every 2-4 years we rotate. Potentially to somewhere we've never been. So you're constantly making and breaking friendships... Which is great at times, and extremely shitty at others.

20 years USMC (1986-2006). 0341 while enlisted flew CH-46s as an Officer. Got out as a Corporal (e)/Major (o)

Loved every minute!

A little bit of both in terms of Navy. At any given time you'll be Sea Duty or Shore Duty for a number of years depending on how long you've been in. If you're Sea Duty you'll be stationed somewhere but depending on your deployment schedule you could be out 8+ months out of the year. Last year I left on deployment in March came back in Nov. The year before that I left in Jan. and came back in July. If you're shore duty you'll be stationed somewhere but just work from shore...no chance to get deployed unless you volunteer.
