all income in a battle zone is tax exempt, and there really is nothing to spend your money on, so its easy to accumulate a lot of cash.

It's usually a little longer than 3 months, even for USAF. Army is 15 months or so!

I know how deployment pay work (Iraq 12 months). It was more of a jab at air forces 3 month deployments.

The last tax free trip was 14mo + 2@ Ft. Riley for training. This will be #5 in 8.5 years. Lets not fall into stereo types here.

what really surprised me was that while my wife and I were vacationing in San Diego last Halloween, whe met a young navy gunners mate who had just returned from a year in Afghanistan. Never thought we sent our ship types over there.
