Wow, beautiful pics. The F16 is sill one of the best looking planes. Love the F22, but the F16 has my heart. Even sexier than the 370z I must say

they are sexy on different levels... have you seen a raptor flying yet? at an airshow or anything? want to talk about the epitome of sexy?! :leghump:

the performance and technology of that jet are incredible

I'm actually going to apply to the unit in AK within the next year. I either want to fly raptors or HH-60s

Pretty observant! Close... Google E-4.

Question: How, or what do you have to do, if you need to eject?

Actually my jet doesn't have an ejection method. We used to be able to bail out (which is jumping out with a parachute instead of being ejected via rocket boosted seat) but the Air Force has recently become EXTREMELY anal with weight savings for better fuel conservation (SEE lighter is better... the AF says so!) to the point where they decided to remove the parachutes :ugh2:. So bailing out is no longer and option. If something happens, I'm boned. I'd need to hope for good *** pilots to pull a Sully into the Hudson.

Are you serious? That's bullsh!t - how much can a few chutes weigh? Honestly... Your crew is like what, 4-6 people?

Nice pics btw and good luck with your application too!

And Thank You :usa:

Are those taken from a KC-135? Looks like someone is getting a refuel

I like this format better, it loads the page quicker, and if you want to see it full sized you just click on the image and it goes full size.

Again thanks for the new batch great pics...

parachute thing not so great. I cannot believe the AF is that anal over 100-120lbs worth of chutes.

You and me both. I used to like the piece of mind that came with at least having the chutes on board should you have that fluke bad day... but now not so much

Its ok though... the jet I fly in is only 50 years old

370Zapper 05-21-2010 08:16 AM

Those are some awesome shots. Guessing you fly in a HC-130. Would love to see a AC-130 in action.

Anyways, thanks for sharing the pics. It's crazy to think the F-16 is over 30 years old, and those tomcats even older.

Do you now feel like the bottom turret gunner on the old B17?

http://www.granitegrok.com/pix/B17%2...y%20turret.jpg

I think they where not allowed to fit with the parachute... or maybe i just remember a bad movie.

370Zapper 05-21-2010 08:49 AM

If you remembered it from Memphis Belle, then you remembered it from a great movie.

dropped1 05-21-2010 10:58 AM

Ha ha. If they are concerned with weight savings tell the fat air force guys to go on a diet!!

I fly in a KC-135R... Done some AR (air refueling) with 130s and AC-130s though.

A lot of the Air Force inventory is pretty old, but the maintenence is pretty incredible compared to what civilian airliners get...

oo7mech 05-22-2010 02:45 AM

that f-16 picture is really clear. You can see the HUD and the pilot's eyes.

This might be childish to ask. Have you seen the movie Stealth? You know those refulling Zeppelin type of ships. Do we actually have those?

I have seen it. We don't have that... yet. I can foresee something like that being made in the future (maybe not a zeppelin, some sort of large autonomous aircraft) for all the UAVs that are coming online. Even the art of air refueling is becoming more digital, I can already see that becoming completely autonomous too in the future.

Wow what an amazing job. Gotta be scary the first time those pilots flew a b-2 spirit bomber! $1billion+ Certainaly is a hefty price if something went wrong! That pic of the shadows off in the clouds is amazing! Cool stuff Thanks for sharing these!

Best is to set up a youtube account. Load your video up to there. Then you can use the "youtube" button on these threads to post on here.

Great pics! My ex-Wife's old man was a boom operator in the 135 and he had some pics just like that but of F-4Es, RF-4s, B-52s from when he flew missions out of Thailand during Vietnam. Beautiful!

Maybe so. I remember when the Blackbird used to fly missions for Navy. I had the privilege of seeing the Blackbird at an airshow at Travis AFB and that was quite a site! That plane still rocks! I think they still fly for NOAA or NASA at least they used to. Coolest aircraft stuff I viewed outside of regular carrier flights ops which in and of itself is quite the thing to witness was when a B-52 and a B-1B Lancer flew low level right above the water past our carrier. Thats something you don't see every day, even in the Navy!

Seeing a B-1B go practically vertical, and then going inverted straight through a cloud (practically decimating it in the process) gave me a hardon.

As much as I like all the pics, I see that A-10 and pop wood.

The Warthog is one of my favorites! A good buddy of mine flew them in Alaska and I remember waiting on the end of the runway as the first ones flew in from the Fairchild-Republic factory in the early 80s. I asked my friend who flew them up there if he was ever worried about flying such a slow aircraft and he responded, "When you are in an F-15 flying Mach 2 you really don't feel it. However, at sea level going 300 knots and then yanking and banking it is like riding a roller coaster. He said, "I can out turn any fighter and if I can point my 30MM cannon at him, he is toast!" Tragically, he died in a training crash flying a low level. It really is a remarkable aircraft. As of today though, the F-22 Raptor is undeniably the most awesome aircraft built by man. It can do things no other aircraft in the world can do. Simply makes your jaw drop when you watch it go through its paces.

I've been told by some A-10 pilots I know, that the 30mm Gattling gun on the nose can (if fired long enough) produce enough thrust to actually slow the aircraft down!
