Default Got a new toy

The Eclipse is pretty boring, so I decided to get something different. I bought a 2005 Ninja 250 off of my friend who upgrader to a Gixxer 600, and its way more fun than I thought riding would be! Plus, now I get to park right in front of all the buildings on campus instead of three miles out in a gravel lot that looks like the surface of the moon

I know its not much, but I love it so far, and I plan on upgrading in a year or two when I get more comfortable with everything. I've only ridden for about two hours total, but downtown and the interstate didn't present any problems at all. Now I just gotta get a license and some insurance before I start riding everyday I guess. Opinions?

Those are fun little bikes. The only thing that sucks is in about 1 month your going to want something bigger.

The 250's are great beginner bikes. While I know a lot of people who upgrade in less than a season, I highly recommend sticking with it for a couple and it will pay off in dividends down the line. I do a lot of group rides and the guys who either ride 250's or had spent a few years with them easily outpace a lot of the 600's and other SS bikes because they know how to corner. It's a lot easier throwing around a 250 than it is an SS, let me tell you.

But regardless, welcome to the hobby and ride safe .

Yeah, the insurance and beginner status are the main reason I went for the 250 rather than my friends 600. I don't need anything too powerful just yet since I won't be doing much highway riding while I'm in school, but once I'm on my own next year I plan on moving up to a Gixxer 600.

Congrats. I still want to get a bike, but I chicken out every time.

By the way, I've still never seen you around.

Go buy you a decent used one and just try it out. Its not nearly as scary as you'd think. I literally sat on a bike for the first time and less than an hour later I was riding down I-20. I can barely even drive an MT car anymore, but shifting a bike is much more intuitive and easy for me.

I haven't been in Shreveport much these past couple of months. Senior classes are kicking my ***...I'll be around this weekend at the casino and for mother's day, but I won't be on the bike. I sorta never told my parents I got one, and my mom would probably cry if she knew I had one. I'll tell them before the school year starts up again lol.

Take your time and get used to it until you feel comfortable. If you plan to move to something such as an R6 they are a completely different bike. I plan to pick up an R6 in about 2yrs. Just be safe out there dude

Sure thing! Thanks. I'm pretty set on getting a GSX-R 600 or 750, but I'm going to sit on all of them to see which fits me the best. All the sport bikes these days are built well so you can't really go wrong.

my first was a ninja 750. Had the sales guy ride it to my apartment. drove the parking lots for days. Scared the crap out of me for awhile. Later upgraded to a gixxer 750. I miss them both. I ride quads with my son now. No cars jumping out in front of you.

If you're in town 5/16, we're having a BBQ get together for the local website at (I think) Clyde Fant-- PM if you'll be around & we'll get together.

You mean 318Racing? I might take you up one that. I'm a member one there, but I don't ever go to the site nor do I know anyone from there. It's always good to meet new people though. I'll let you know later this week.

Yessir on 318racing. I'm friends with a lot of the people there, but honestly, it's fairly click-ish.

Just say you're my friend ("cow" there too) if you post or whatever & you'll be fine lol.

& cool on letting me know.

Please do a motorcycle safety course especially if you are going to jump up to an SS.

Of course. I won't be upgrading for a while anyway, so I've got plenty of time.
