Internet goes in and out of connection, reset the router and now nothing works!? HELP
I have Cablevision here (Optimum Online) and lately my internet has been losing connection for a few minutes every so often, which recently turned into about 4-5x an hour. Its getting REALLY annoying. I tried to reset the router as I have done in the past only to run into a bigger issue. NOW, I cannot connect to my home wirless at all! I go to my network connections and it doesnt even show up, only other peoples wireless. I've waited as long as a half hour with everything turned off for it to do something and I have come up with NOTHING.
I even turned unplugged EVERYTHING in the outlet (TV is the same provider) and the TV is working, just no internet. I am about to lose it. Absolutely FED UP with this company all I have had is problems since day 1. Verizon here I come lol Can anyone guide me on how to fix this? All the information is under my roomate who hasnt been here for a few days therefore I cannot call them. I tried to go to their online tech support also but all it does is freeze my browser. |
You need this:

What about your modem? Do you have a "Jerry-Rig" for the TV and modem?
I get the problem sometimes and I have to hook the cable directly to the outlet and reset the modem. Rarely I have to reset the router. |

When you lose internet do you notice any loss in quality on your lower channels (basic cable channels)? I can almost guarantee that your problem is not with your ISP but instead with your hardware. |
Linksys router. Where I took the ethernet cable that connects the router to the cable box and plugged my laptop to the cable box I was able to connect that way. But the guy at Optimum said that its something with my router. I called Linksys and they are trying to charge me $30 for them to try to help me on the phone. Ridiculous.

The problem is all tin foil you wrapped the router with....lol
You and your tin foil...haha |
Look on the side of the router, is there a WEP and SSID numbers?
|
Yeah there are numbers but I drove up to my parents house for the weekend so I could have a connection and not have to deal with this lol
|
Have you tried this: click start, then click "Connect To", then click "set up a connection or network".
I'm probably telling you stuff you have done already! |

Pick one up at Bestbuy, unfortunately pretty much all brands are the same. Eventually it will fail and the same **** will happen. |
Buy one that could be programmed if needed.

dd-wrt for the win!
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index wont fix your current issue but if you're buying a new router, which it sounds like you need to, this firmware is awesome |
