I'd say 9 out of 10 times, uneven burn is user error. Either from incorrect storage, improper lighting/smoking.
There have even been times where my cigar would be burning unevenly (a little bit is okay but this was sidewinding like a snake) and I would take my cutter to the lit end and basically start over on the cigar (of course after exhaling through the cigar to get rid of any fouled bits before relighting.) Also, uneven burn is more common to the outdoors smoker because of wind. To be honest, every real cuban that i've enjoyed tended to burn a little unevenly. But I'm of the mind that cubans are overrated and that there are much better non cuban cigars out there. After all, a sh1tty cuban is still a cuban, but its also still a sh1tty cigar. |

Yeahhhhh... I light my cigars with a torch and a bic
And if it starts to burn unevenly, I'll either light the slower burning side, or lick the faster burning side And I KNOW Cubans aren't rated #1 anymore, but for ME, I prefer the shíttiest Cuban to a Padrón I just can't do Padrons or 99% of Nicaraguan cigars, I just don't like the flavor Favorite Cuban (that's not limited) has gotta be Cohiba Maduro 5, any size, and the Montecristo Petit Edmundo Favorite non Cuban... Arturo Fuentes, almost all of them but not their $6-7 sticks, any and every Opus X, Nub Connecticut Box press, and 2 others which I forgot... Aurea something? And Oliva, not sure specifically which one Last edited by DEpointfive0; 02-12-2013 at 03:40 AM. |

There are a lot of factors that can lead to uneven burn. I think think any of these three, or a combination, is the culprit:
My guess is it's 1 or 2, or a combination of both. As far as your friend saying Cubans always leave him feeling light-headed... the Cubans make light, medium, and heavy cigars just like everyone else.

I'm sure I've posted it before, but my favorites, in no particular order, are:
Padron 26 My Father Le Bijou 1922 (the Special Edition run was amazing) Ashton VSG (one of my go-tos) Oliva Serie V (Serie G and O are good too) La Aroma De Cuba Mi Amor I always stock Cusano 18s since they are good for new smokers. Smooth and light, with nice flavor.
