Ms. Right? Or Ms. Right now? When to "settle"?
So my coworkers and I got into a conversation the other day about finding one's "soul mate". Some people believe that there is a "Ms. Right" or "Mr. Right" (for the ladies) out there for everyone. Others believe that that search is futile and will only lead to frustration.
What's your take on it? Do you think as long as you and your partner are happy, then you don't need to be "perfect" for each other? Would you rather live a life alone, than "settle" for someone perhaps overweight or immature? Or would you rather settle for someone not so right for you, just to ensure you have a "teammate" in life, i.e. someone to help raise kids and complete a household? Is there a certain age or situation in which you think one goes from one choice to the other? EDIT: Here is the article that a coworker found that started the conversation. It's from a woman's perspective about why it's okay to settle. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/23053553/

My EX girl and I were considered "Soul Mates"... Everyone told me that she was my Soul mate. Notice I put EX? It could be very hard to find your soul mate and falling in love with a very attractive girl doesnt mean she's your soul mate.

Just live the life of a rich bachelor, ala Charlie Harper. "Relationships" are overrated. If you don't have the money to be a rich bachelor then find a sugar mama that needs a toy boy.

I've been in a relationship for 7 years (ouch!), and while it's certainly not perfect...it's "okay". She takes care of her domestic responsibilities just fine, cleans, laundry, etc (I do the cooking because I enjoy it). She's not a 10 on my attractive scale, but she's still very attractive to me (in the 7's, I guess). I'm lucky if I rate that high on her scale, haha. We both have decent jobs
We've been engaged twice, but I've called it off both times due to me feeling that once she has the ring she sort of "gives up" on making our relationship better....like the engagement was a way of me saying everything is great, let's move on to the next step. While her and I both admit that there's probably someone better out there for us, why should we risk the frustration and anger of having to deal with the possibility of finding people much worse instead? I'm certainly not unhappy with our relationship, and neither is she. We both are sort of just "happy enough". The problem? She'd choose option 1 in this poll, and I would choose option 2 (for now).

Hate to be doom and gloom, but there are no soulmates. Relationships are only as good as what you put into them.
