iRacing anyone? (Sim Racing)
Anyone a member of iRacing? I tried it for a month a while back and really enjoyed it but never renewed my membership due to the high cost. Well it looks like prices have come way down and I'm considering signing up again.
Looks like you can setup private leagues now too so I was thinking a 370Z league would be cool. Anybody interested? It's a great way to learn tracks and work on car control, etc. |

I won a free 1-year membership last fall. I tried it out for a little while but got quickly bored with the stock tracks and cars. The track models are extremely accurate (laser scanned) so I added on a couple of regional tracks so that I can practice my lines before heading out there.
I think the thing that bugs me the most is the poor force feedback, no where near as good as older sims like GTR2. The whole racing with random people is kind of weird too, prefer real league races. I think they are missing a market segment by not having more sports car models. HPDE drivers would love to be able to practice in a car that is similar to their own. |

Yeah I do wish they had more sports cars too. I can't remember the force feedback being a problem. It's been a while though...
Racing against random people was a bit of a turn off for me too. That's why the private race league caught my interest. It would be a lot more fun racing with friends. |

I do it, and Lance (tooohip) is a member as well. It's the best sim there is.
You just have to keep in mind that it's always going to be a work in progress so more content will be added infinitely. It's also centered around total realism, so I don't think they're ever going to have factory stock sports cars. It's all going to be race cars as that's what it's about. BTW, i think the FF is great with my G25. It takes a lot of tweaking to get it to your liking, but I think it's really good. I'm one of the whores that owns every car and every track... lol. BTW... the random people thing works out pretty well. With the Sporting Code in effect it's nothing like public racing servers on other games where people just wreck you and stuff. Don't abide by the SC and you will get penalized or kicked out. Everyone is looking out for their SR so it really helps cut down on stupidity. Plus as you get better and increase your iRating you get placed in higher splits with the better drivers. The quality of racing really changes when the SOF is above 3000. Low irating races, especially in Rookie classes (rookie legends OMG), can be kind of messy. I do like it now though that they allow privately hosted races and leagues.

I already race in a private league with GTR2 and it is a lot of fun. It's very challenging because the races are 90 minutes long and you have to stay in it to win it.

iRacing has started running special events based off of real life races. Most recent was the iRacing Daytona 500, which was a full 500 miles with the A-class Impala. They did 2.4 hours at Daytona with the Riley and are going to do 120 minutes at Sebring with the Corvette soon.
Also the Mustang FR500C is coming soon and the 2009 Williams F1 machine...

You make some good points, Steve. I never had a problem with the quality of racing with strangers but I just think it's more fun to be racing with people you know.
I think I'll go ahead and sign back up and give it another try. They sent me a half off 3 month membership code Maybe if there's enough interest later we can start up a league with the members here. Oh and Steve, mind if you share your settings for the G25? I have the same wheel. Thanks |

I'll take a look at them when I get home tonight and let you know.
One of the things I like about iRacing is it's ability to humble those that claim NASCAR is easy.

I'm personally not a NASCAR fan but I have a ton of respect for those drivers. I did a track day in my STi at Lowes Motor Speedway (road course) and was amazed at the g forces I was feeling in the banks at ~135mph. I can't imagine what it feels like at the speeds those guys do it at. Plus the cars are so sensitive to aero. They seem extremely unstable. Then the endurance factor comes in....and the boredom factor of driving in circles |

I'd like to know your G25 settings as well, might help revive my interest in iRacing. We did a 3 hour race at Sebring a few weeks ago in GTR2, that was a lot of fun. I would like to try something long in iRacing to see how well they model tire wear.

OK, so I just did a quick check and I am using the recommended settings.
When you log into your account, click on FAQs at the top, select Driving Inputs, and then choose Logitech Wheel/Pedal settings. Follow the G25 settings in your Profiler and in the sim. Works pretty well for me. If you have your centering spring enabled, disable it, because that's just not a natural feel.

I'm a member too but just got into it a month or so ago. It speaks alot to the quality of the game that you can play one two tracks with one car for a month and not be tired of it.

Totally. I joined back in 2008 before the public release, so I have seen it develop and grow a lot. Says a lot for the future, IMO. Once they've got the core cars and tracks down we'll start to get a lot more cool features that just enhance the sim.

Awesome! Glad they are working out for you.
The Corvette is great fun! I definitely think I'm going to run the 120 minutes of Sebring with it whenever they do that. If you ever want to try out the oval cars, the Late Model races are an asbolute blast. Tight, close racing on some really short tracks... lots of fun.
