Default About to need some new tires... help

Hey guys. Since the majority of you all are far more knowledgeable and experienced in the area of tires, I figured this would be the best place for me to pose my question:
I need to get some new tires for my car. The size is 225/60/16. The OEM tires are Eagle LS's. (Sucky)
I'm sort of narrowed it down to the General Altimax HP's and the Eagle GT's. I've heard that General has made generally mediocre tires in the past, but I haven't enough experience in the matter to give a reasonable justification.
Any suggestions? I'm trying to keep the price down to about 100 bucks or less per tire.
The OEM tires have disappointed me in about every singe area, except they are quiet (my 143.2 dB @ 33 Htz stereo drowns out any noise at all, so I could care less about that).
I am looking for improved performance and GRIP (I have almost no grip at all right now). The car is a Pontiac Grand Prix, and I will need to replace the tires within a few months.
I appreciate any and all suggestions/comments! Thanks guys.

Take a look at the Michilen Pilot Sports - I've heard good things about those tires. The Eagle GT's are not a bad choice either. If it's grip you're after going to a High Performance all season tire is the way to go. Be prepared for a different feel than the Eagle LS's - those are a "comfort" all season tire, and according to the reviews on tire rack not a very good tire overall.

Love the avatar, cracks me up.

Yeah the Eagle LS's suck majorly. You can trust tire rack, and you can trust me driving on them: they suck.

The only Pilot Sport's I see are the A/S Plus's, and they are like 133 bucks a tire: a little more than I am looking to spend. I rarely have to deal with snow and ice. I'm not looking for a track or drifting tire at all, just something that will give me better grip and performance (significant) than the stock tires. And I could really care less about comfort and quietness and old lady crap.

For most of the people on here (who own 370Z's), a different type of performance is sought than me (the 370's a little bit faster than my car... or any car I've driven). Thanks for the help man! And yeah the avatar's a little odd.

Look in BF Goodrich Traction T/As, or Sport T/As or whatever they are called now. I wouldn't recommend them for snow and ice but they are great rubber. I'll be replacing the tires on my Z with those when the time comes.
