In the end Apple took the iPhone/iPod touch and created a larger version to just start with, can it become great? Sure, but would it have been better to start with what we saw (iPad) and then try to grow from that for a first round try. The iPad really could have change the industry:

eBooks, portal media (web, video, music, etc.), email, iWork, plus apps - Are all a great start
What about video chat or VoiP, desktop widgets/info, multi-task (Apple created this great new CPU or bought into it but do not show it off), connection(s) (HDMI/USB/or even displayport, you want this device to be the ultimate portable and all give us is 30pin?), widescreen (4:3 ratio was a bad decision). There are more things Apple could/should have done, all within the realm of the current technology without changing cost.

Valid points, they missed the boat on some big ticket items and big opportunities here, but hope is not lost by any means.

I jailbroke my iphone to overcome it's shortcomings and I am sure it won't be long till people have this thing cracked with all the goods. I hope Apple builds a more upscale version with a proper OS though.

From what I have found is it is running the same OS as the iPhone/iPod touch so jailbreaking will probably happen day one. I do know that some big changes are coming in the 4.0 update which have been shown to have features for the iPad specifically, which were not announced yet. So I am wondering if Apple is going to use 4.0 as another selling point for the iPad after it has been out for a while.

I seriously feel more freaking retarded after watching this. I can't even reduce my mental capacity to an amount required to run this thing. He spent like, 2 minutes surfing around random websites, and even more time on email. If I heard him say "simple" one more time...

Nothing is innovative about this thing. Nothing.

^It's not personal, Apple didn't make this just to offend you. I think we are having a discussion about the pros and cons of this thing but spouting off your disgust doesn't really contribute to your point of view.

Apple tries to come off as a company who makes trendy, innovative products. With this, they have totally failed. So yeah, I am disgusted. What would you prefer I contribute?

"This product is boring, bland, unimaginative"
"This product is totally not Apples style or up to their par of quality"
"This product is marketed for people with 5 or less functioning brain cells"

Steve-o seriously sounded like he was reaching as hard as possible to make it sound innovative, and it ended up being boring as hell. I could actually hear him thinking, "hmm...how long can I simply surf the web for, and show off features that just about every touch screen has, and keep the crowd interested?!"

Something productive that isn't offensive to everyone who doesn't share your extremist views. No one here is claiming perfection with this, but calling it a total failure is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. Insults to not equal constructive or even viable reasoning.

Moving along, I found this article pretty interesting. The best thing to come out of this could be the competition to come from it. Hopefully we will see more and better products from other manufactures to adapt and force Apple to push the bar if they want to stay atop the heap in the "cooler than thou" gadget arena.

I think the biggest thing that bothers me is how stupid I would look trying to type on it in public.

frost 01-28-2010 07:16 PM

I guess I'm just not sure of the point. It lacks too many tools to really be useful.

Luv'n my Z 01-28-2010 07:25 PM

I like the concept but I think it should be able to run OS 10.6 not some iPhone software and iLife is a definite yes us I want a web cam on it. The MacBook touch is a awsome concept that I would definatly get

btw:I have AT&T and I barely get service any where plus I'd take a droid over a iPhone any day

Here's my constructive criticism on it: put OS X on it. Voila. Fixed.

Ok, if this happened I would buy it.
It would solve almost any issue with it people have, and still allow Apple to have their control over the device, maybe even more so (jailbreaking community?).

The bezel is pretty ridonkulous, too. But, need to hide all the WiFi and other goodies SOMEWHERE, since its so thin already.

The biggest thing would be customization...theres reasons I like my Droid over the iPhone, by far - and its not JUST the fact that AT&T blows lol.
