That, and the fact that I was downloading YouPorn videos - that was the final selling point to one of my friends lol. |

Anyway, this ain't no phone replacement, unless you have really big pockets. I'm not running out to buy Apple stock like I did when the first iPhone came out. |

Seems pretty useless to me. It's an oversized IPod Touch without a real Tablet OS, so you can only load apps from the Apple store and not any real applications. I'm sure it will find a niche market but to me it seems rather impractical.

Im fairly sure the "niche market" you're talking about is also called, "Apple Fanbois"

I'm hugely disappointed in Apple for this product.
I've been looking out for a Mac netbook for 2 years now. This thing could have been revolutional if it ran OS X instead of the iPhone OS. Agreed that it's just a huge iPod Touch. Imagine what this could have been though: If it ran OSX, you could place it on a little stand in front of you on your desk, use it as a computer with a wireless keyboard and mouse, and then drop it in your bag when you go off to work. A truly mobile, versatile computer that is iPhone thickness, massive battery life, and does it all. They could drop the Macbook line completely and offer the iPad in various screen sizes from 10 to 15 inches. My guess is people would easily pay $999 or more for a true OS X iPad, especially if it had accessory external drives and an accessory dock (with HDMI, USB, eSATA, etc) that could connect through the usual iPhone dock connector it already has. Instead, we get a big iPod Touch that runs only apps from the Crapp Store. My iPhone actually does MORE than the iPad, just with a smaller screen. My guess is that any iPhone owners will steer clear of this thing unless they just have cash to burn and a desire to have all the gadgets. |

Those are not the 100% best, but you can find netbooks with HD screens, 10 hour battery life, quick CPU/GPU (note: for the size, you will not run photoshop on this), plus plenty of HDD space and memory. How do I know this, because I have been using one for almost a year now. This is mine: 11" screen 2GB of memory 100GB hard drive 1.3 or 1.6Ghz CPU 720P display Runs Windows XP, Vista, or 7 (I have also tested Ubuntu & OS X) 10 hours of battery life (Really more like 9) Weights 2.25-2.5 pounds Now I do like the Apple tablet idea, but as with most Apple gen 1 products they are just baiting you in with the first. Good start, but lacking many key features, but give it 12-16 months and we will probably get a device that is what most want or be software updated enough to. I have found reasons this device (iPad) could replace my netbook, but I am only at 30% really, there are many features still lacking to actually replace it. While I somewhat agree netbooks are just cheap and a bit underwhelming they do fill the void more than this iPad has done so far. It lets me run what I want, for extended time, good keyboard, good screen. Only downside is at the end of the day it is still a laptop device and not a tablet device. |

I am in agreement with this. To me, this is a horrible, horrible device. It does nothing new and it does nothing well. edit: Also I have a Droid and love it. I was waiting forever for an Android phone to come out on Verizon's network so I was pretty ecstatic when it finally happened. |
Even me loving apple and people calling me an apple huger I have to say.
However Corny Name Tad Expensive Expected more out of the interface but than again it could be more than what I am thinking. I doubt it has much REAL use. Yes even me being a apple user and lover I still will say this is probably not one of their best products. SO for those of you that judge apple user to love all apple products need to get off your high horse. This thing is........................useless On a side note I still love my 6 year old apple laptop and look foward to getting my new one. |
I will wait for Ipad 3Gs :rofl2: seriously I have always loved the idea of touch tablets and I think with a more robust internals for computing I could see this as a great product. They would have 110% sold me if I could do my photoshop on the ipad! As far as workflow I love iwork and as an everyday device I could see how useful this could be.

Surprised at the intense hate for this thing already, people act like Steve Jobs raped their mother when talking about this thing.
All brand loyalty aside, I see a lot of potential in this platform in changing how we interact with information on a daily basis. And that goes for any company making such a device. I don't think this is meant to replace your phone or your ipod or your laptop, so don't attack it for not being any of those things. I can think of several times in just the past day or two that I would have used a device such as this. I don't see people jumping all over Amazon for the Kindle not having email/color screen/photo viewer etc, because it's not meant to do any of those things. This iPad offers waaaay more for the price than any e-reader out there, and better yet, provides a beautiful platform from which to build a foundation. I can see myself getting one of these and moving to a more basic phone, and perhaps just getting a desktop computer down the line. I use my laptop 80% for surfing the web, and using media; this offers a more flexible platform for me to use for that purpose. While this is far from perfect, I think it will only get better. Look at the very first iPod and compare it to the latest iPod and you will see many magnitudes of improvement, I see this heading in the same direction. |
I agree ctzn, it should become a great device, but Apple has the iPod and the iPhone to build from. They also have all the past mistakes of Microsoft and others at tablet attempts and can see what people wanted from them but also why those devices failed.
In the end Apple took the iPhone/iPod touch and created a larger version to just start with, can it become great? Sure, but would it have been better to start with what we saw (iPad) and then try to grow from that for a first round try. The iPad really could have change the industry: eBooks, portal media (web, video, music, etc.), email, iWork, plus apps - Are all a great start What about video chat or VoiP, desktop widgets/info, multi-task (Apple created this great new CPU or bought into it but do not show it off), connection(s) (HDMI/USB/or even displayport, you want this device to be the ultimate portable and all give us is 30pin?), widescreen (4:3 ratio was a bad decision). There are more things Apple could/should have done, all within the realm of the current technology without changing cost. |
Id rock one if it could fit into my pocket but that aint gonna happen.
