So after about 12 emails, I got an update from carfax. They actually updated the report and the old report with front and rear damage with airbag deployment, is getting removed.

The left pic is what it will be updated with. So just cosmetic damage.

I will say, it took a lot of pushing, on my end, to get carfax to contact the police department and get all the proper information. You really have to stay on their ***. Ill give the rep credit though, they did continue to keep me updated and give me all the info, as it came in. Though they gave me plenty of chances to just give up and think they wouldnt help any further.

It boggles my mind that your cars value depends so much on if it's had any accidents and their extent. But most places you get no insurance compensation for lost value. AAAAND it's not legal to sue for diminished value most places either... Bad deal all around.

I got type a good 6 paragraphs on how I feel about it. Before this I would have said "the carfax is a good source of info and should be trusted." Now, I dont know wtf to think!

Still mostly good info. Just take it with a grain of salt like everything else on the internet. Think of it as another data source for your research. CarFax should never be the sole point of reference for accident reporting even though it's successfully advertised that way because of how easy it is to access.

totally agree...at 37, it makes me feel a bit gullible but we all learn at some point.

well, I didnt really want to make a follow up post about this, since it pisses me off so much...but here it goes.

I found out about 3 days after my last post that the ""FIX"" was not actually a fix. They actually decided to add another nice glaring picture to the report. They added a brand new accident.

I could sit here and rant about how useless carfax is but I wont.

The car sold a few weeks ago for $27k and I felt lucky that I got that much for it.

Damn that sucks. I have an audi and I have to wonder if it has been an accident too. I just see somethings that don't add up. Everything seems fine for the most part.
But there is a huge gap in the carfax report. It was from Manheim car auction that a gmc or gm dealer had. It was kinda of odd imo.
But its been 3 yrs so who knows lol.

How much did u pay for it?

I'll be in my bunk!

Yeah, theres not much you can do, especially if youve already owned it for 3 years. If there was the carfax "buy back" on the car, it would still only be for 1 year. I suggest you not dwell on it too long.

I paid $24, back in 2018. It had 23k miles. Carmax SAYS they use "auto check" and not carfax, so the car was clean. Im fairly certain there was information on it. I say that since the carfax was updated after the car was in my possession, registered and under my ownership.

I guess the timing was good. Especially with these so called shortages. U came ahead. Had this been a couple of yrs ago 3, u would of got less for sure.
