Dental Problem...
So this is the situation..i need a root canal done. now this is not the first time i will have one done nor even the second, rather my 3rd time. The only difference this time...is that i have no insurance covering it. I was on my mothers plan since i was still attending school and did not have benefits through my work. She has recently been laid off. i currently have no insurance of any type. But the main thing i want to know is what it would cost without insurance??? This would include the crown. I payed for my most recent one, and with the help of insurance i payed almost 1000$..which i thought was a lot. ive searched and found huge differences in prices..ranging from 600-$3000. ive also called my local dentists'and couldnt get an uninsured quote for some reason. I would buy coverage but the wait to be allowed to even have it done can be up to a year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. hopefully this makes sense. Im hoping i dont just have to bite the bullet and pay for it out right...been trying to save.
Thanks, Mike

the veneer (sp?) crowns are the most expensive. You can get a silver crown cheaper than most other kinds.
also, there's two prices, the insurance price and the customer price. if you state that you dont have insurance, they charge you less. Stupid and almost immoral (ripping off insurance companies) but thats how it is. thats probably why they wont quote you in case your an insurance agent trying to question their price. With that said, I paid about 500 dollars for mine, (veneer) and it was w/ insurance. I think my insurance paid 50% which means all in all it was 1 grand. |

You can usually get a nice dentist to knock at least 30% off the price if you are uninsured. My dentist often gives me patch work for free, but now that I actually have insurance they billed them $300! I've never had a root canal and hopefully never will, take care of your teeth! You only get one set (ok two, but the first ones don't count).

Just get the root canal and a good feeling, once you get insurance them get the crown.
However, I would stay with a good feeling since I have bad luck with dental procedures.
