Been wondering about this. Probably nothing, but thought I'd ask anyway.
I could start another thread under the appropriate subsection but its such a simple question I don't want to waste the space.

Oil Change: Did it last Feb 2022. Only put 1550 miles on it since then. Do I need to change it again already since its been more than 6 months? Oil levels look and smell good but curious what the Z veterans think about it. Should I just wait till 2000miles? Planning on doing it again Feb 2023 if miles are still under 2k.

Joy of not having your Z as a DD. You barely put miles on it. Drive it like twice a week just for fun. 15 miles each rip.

Thanks gents :tiphat:

Why would you change oil after 6 months? Usually it's either 1 year or 6000miles, whatever comes first.

I drive my Z only on the weekend, and not always - but when I do, I put a bit more than just 15 miles or so - it's better to let the engine get to proper temperature and drive it than to just do a short 15-20min drive.

Many schools of thought on this and depends on who you ask. Right after doing an oil change, my CSC gave signs of going out. That was about 1.5 year ago and have not changed the oil since. I put about 200 miles since the last oil change to now to drive her once every couple of weeks to get the oil running and before the clutch pedal goes soft.

Some people will say change every 6 months regardless of miles due to moisture build up and others will say check the oil if changing after 6 months.

I check the oil once a month before taking her out for the short drive, along with topping of the clutch fluid. Mine still looks fresh and no signs of sludge.

Yes of course, I usually let her warm up about 5 minutes. Then on my cruise, I make sure oil temps are at 180 before I beat the crap out of her. :bowrofl:

6K Miles? Wow, I don't think I've ever gone that far between oil changes. The most has been 3k on the various sports cars I've owned.

On a non performance daily driver I could see that much time in-between changes. But on a performance car that see's high heat and high rpms pretty regularly while scootin about. I'd start getting paranoid about the oil starting to break down past 2500 "HARD" miles. High heat and high rpms are going to break an oils viscosity down much more quickly than a regular car I would think.

Appreciate the feed back though.

yeah 6k miles is a lot of miles, I was changing mine every 3k in the Z, but I also think climate plays a part in it too.. I would do frequent changes if the car is stored outside in michigan (etc) where its cold over being in florida where it doesnt get cold, where I would think one oil change a year (using a good quality motor oil) where you're putting on a handful of miles a year, I would think is fine.. just my .02:tup:
