This is going to be a bit tricky and I'll need to work on my juggling. How's everyone here feeling?

Congratulations Josh,
Hopefully compensation accompanies the position!

I hope that they will make your wallet a little heavier.

Yes and no. My salary went up which isn't anything to sneeze at, but that was partly because this all occurred at my annual raise + performance review. I've been told the bonuses will be a lot larger. But the real improvement is to my visibility in the company. I was also told flat out I'm on the short list of replacements for running the division, when the time comes. All of that is very good.

But the situation I'm going into is, not mincing words, really ******* tough. The Director of Manufacturing had a year with this problem and only scratched the surface, so I have no illusions here - this could be the first time I really fail in this org. I've never run this dept, and the dept has some of the lowest performers in the entire organization. I may have to go in and really clean house. Probably 6 months minimum before I can start to breathe again, and that's if this goes well.

So if I'm unemployed in a year, I may hit you up for a place on your couch ;) lol

Morning everyone :hello:

Z carpet is almost dry. Little bit of weather this morning will slow the process, but I had the windows down and the door propped open most of yesterday. That stupid carpet pad for NVH is way too thick.

It will be rough no doubt and you will be successful because you have always been successful. Just keep doing what you have always done. Set the expectations and be unapologetic. I let everyone know from the start what I expect. I only ask two things of them there trust and respect. I am here to make things the best they can be for the company and all of you and you have three options, get on my train, get off my train or be run over by it. The choice is theirs!

I appreciate that Bob, thanks for the pep talk. I won't let you down coach! The wisdom in your comment "Set the expectations and be unapologetic" is great.

My dad imparted this bit of wisdom on me. There are 3 ways to do things. The right way. The wrong way. And the boss's way. My dad was a mine foreman, and retired as a mine superintendent. He set production records in the mines he worked at. He would take his guys out to dinner when they set a record. For Christmas. The guys would drop off hams and turkeys at the house. It was respect on both sides.

I have used this statement about leadership since I heard it from the lieutenant that ran the police academy when I was a recruit. He ask the class do you know what the Golden Rule is and a bunch of people raised their hand. He called on one and the said do on to others as you would have them do to you. He laughed and said no! Listen up...I have the gold, I make the rules!!!

My dad recites that rule at least once a week.
