I do understand your concerns and have passed those concerns but I'm still only the Palace guard here!

I'll hound ya again in another week or 2 haha. We do appreciate your efforts sir. We just want to continue seeing the forum flourish. And seriously, let us know if any of us can help in some way. You have enough IT guru's on this place that we can get either make this place fort knox or create a massive dumpster fire.

For a $300 difference, I don't know if that extra 1/16" is going to do anything for me. Anybody have any experience with Hobart?

Shoot me a PM with your phone number.

Total JAR move.

I see it's now at $350K. I've got a brute force program I've used on it. Can't even fathom the number of passwords I've thrown at it. Pretty sure it was a random password generator password with 14-25 characters. So I think I'm looking at just having to wait until the hardware gets more powerful to crack it.

Actually, I think I'm going to treat myself and double the budget for a Miller 211. It's probably nicer than I deserve, but damnit, I want a Miller. Plus a buddy of mine had a good point that a 120V machine is nicer for doing sheet metal work and the 211 is a dual voltage machine. Always good to be versatile.

120v machines aren't really worth it. Low duty cycle, don't control as well. Get a 230v machine. I have a Lincoln 180 Pro with the wiring kit and gun for aluminum. I can weld just about anything with the right gas. If you can, weld with MIG and gas. Flux core is dirty and the weld isn't as nice. Takes practice to make it look nice. The only upside to flux core is that you don't need gas most of the time.

Miller makes a good machine. Also get a good cart that will hold a gas bottle. If you don't get a good cart. You will be kicking yourself later, and hating the cart.

Gas bottles. I have 3 that I lease for 5 years at a time. CO2 for carbon steel, Tri Mix for stainless steel, and Argon for aluminum. You can buy the bottles out right if you want to. But if the bottle or valve goes bad. You're stuck with it.

The only 2 things that I can't weld. A broken heart and the crack of dawn reps. :tiphat:

Oh definitely. I already weld and have all the above mentioned goodies as well. The only piece in question is the machine itself. I own a Chinese made 120V unit, which has done the job it was originally purchased for, but it is a $300 Chinese made 120V welder.

Now that I'm all grown up and customizing the Ghia, I want a more legit machine (and one with more balls). To quote my neighbor, "I'm at that stage in my life where I'm too old to use cheap tools and drink cheap tequila."
