My gf grew up in the former Soviet Union. She said this past couple months of shortages was nothing compared to when she was growing up. Whenever the store had food to buy, all the neighbors would gather and cook whatever someone bought and share the meals.
Winter time came, each person was rationed sugar, the amount depended on how important you were to the communist party.

Yup, we had it relatively easy as Americans living behind the iron curtain but it still meant rationing and dealing with a lot of **** that most Americans would fall apart over, that’s why it’s called serving our country right, my dad spent over 50 years doing so counting his last couple decades as a contractor as well, that’s still service, just with better pay and hours.
