We are making changes in the store. Starting tomorrow. We will limit the number of people in the store at one time. Closing down garden. One way in. One way out. Walmart is making all of their aisles one way.

My county has 14 cases and 1 death. The death was in a nursing home about 1.5 miles from work. So now everyone at work is on pins and needles.
Perhaps this will make it real enough for those still doubting the severity, to take notice.

Official projections yesterday had between 100,000 and 240,000 US deaths to the virus.

Until this map is a uniform shade of dark yellow, the lockdown period really has not begun.

But you'd need a combination of a charismatic leader or leaders, a failure to react swiftly on the part of the Chinese government, and a willingness to alter 70 years of habit on the part of the older generations.

Don't get me wrong, they may try to make the change, but even in our country we're not eager to make simple changes that might help a large number of people (for example, limiting the influence of lobbyists).
Look at Hong Kong and the protests. The CCP was scared to death over that. They knew they were on thin ice. They back down a little to try and get a handle on things. But the people are still protesting. The CCP wants Taiwan in the worse way. The CCP won't make a move until they think their military is on equal footing with us. The problem with their military is that it's a drafted service. It's not a professional military. 2 year hitch. They have the numbers, but not the training.

That's right, the economy is more important. I hope you enjoy the massive rise in the cost of housing and healthcare for the local Canadians.

I guess we will see more Chinese flags rolling down the streets of Canada.

No. If your gov't had a set of balls and did the right thing. We would have had her. Your spineless leader doesn't have the balls to do anything. He bowes to anyone.

Our farmers were hurt initially by the trade war too, now they are going to make out like a bandit. The papers in Asia were roasting the Xi JP the deal he signed. Australia and Canada don't have the balls to stand up and challenge them. Even at this point, the universities in Australia are bending over backward for them. It's quite sad given how nice Australia is.

Dude, she's been sitting in house arrest in Vancouver for the last year waiting for your justice department to initiate extradition proceedings. It finally started in late January but is still not dealt with.

Meanwhile, several Canadians are on death row in China (in retaliation), and our exports to them have all but dried up. Our dollar is in the crapper in part due to this.

It would have been hugely in Canada's economic interest to simply let her go and get trade moving again, but no, we held her because our "friend" to the south asked us to. We stuck by the fact that we are a nation of laws and this was a legal, not political issue. Then Orange 47 started spouting off about the possibility of using her as a political pawn in his self-inflicted trade war, making us look like the US's henchman. Yet we still held her, mainly because completing the extradition would be a problem for the US economically.

You are welcome!

EDIT: And by the way, our leader doesn't as much "bow" to everyone, as he apologizes to everyone. No idea WTF is with that. I dunno, I didn't vote for him. But back on topic, I have to admit that he's been very good in the last weeks of this crisis. It has to be testing for anyone at the top.

They literally had to post it on Twitter to let everyone know.

Also the Chinese army is not the same as the ones from the past, their actual battle readiness is really not that high. You know what they are known for, karaoke.....

Lastly, if you think the Chinese army is strong. They would have invaded Taiwan years ago, they have been talking about it for 20 years. What have they done? Nothing. They did try to infiltrate their government by inserting these pro CCP politicians, lucky the HK people exposed them and they completely got destroyed. To make matters worse, the whole virus exposed them again.
Do you remember what happened during the Korean war? The US chased the NK Army up to the Chinese border, thinking that the Chinese wouldnt react. Well, they did. Then the US Commanders dismissed the Chinese as simple farmers with rag tag equipment. Well, they sure did give the US Military a run for their money. Yes it was primarily due to their overwhelming numbers, but today, the PLA is fast modernizing their forces. And you cannot discount their indoctrinated mentality (See Japan, Germany in WW2, even your modern Islamic Terrorists)

The reason China isnt going all out invading countries is not because they dont have the strength, but for geo political consequences. Same reason why we dont just take the Spratly Islands from them

China finds it more prudent to "loan to own" where possible, than to invade. Example, many African nations with resources. The red dragon is more than happy to build roads and ports, paying off politicians and keeping governments from being thrown out. Then, the other shoe drops and they import Chinese labour instead of employing locals. By the time officials in those countries have had enough, Xi hands them a bill and says to "pay up or shut up".

Trinidad & Tobago recently ran into this. Argentina is next.

They are wealthy, smart, and very good at playing the long game. That's what makes them so dangerous.

If you need 5x or 10x the casualty to match an opponent, is that really a win? To the CCP, human lives are worthless. They had no problem sacrificing them in war and/or anything to further expand their agenda (Cultural Revolution, the Great Famine). Things have changed since war times, most families have 1 or 2 child, not 5-10. You think the parents will just let their only kid sacrifice themselves? The Chinese culture is not the same as American culture.

The CCP is a classic bully, they will attack people who are weaker than they are. As soon as they see someone more powerful, they back off. As I said, don't let what you see on the surface fool you. They have a lot of things going on underneath and you have to understand their culture to see how they behave.

China's investment into WHO is working out great, look at Tedros and the Canadian cuckold making all the excuses for them. You are right that they are using the debt strategy to trap Africa and they are definitely succeeding. This is why I compare their money to Opium. You take it at your own risk. Luckily I think some of the "investments" are blowing up in their face, aka Venezuela. If you are going to talk about debt, you can't forget about their own debt....

I'm not supporting them, or wanting to let the lady go.
I'd just wish that the extradition would get over with. And pointing out that we have taken a stand to side with law and order and our friends to the south (despite assertions from time to time that we don't).

To me, the actions taken by the Xi regime in support of the company prove the very connection that the company's founder so vehemently denies.

I only hope that our nation has the sense to block them out of the 5G build here, although several of our carriers here have signed expressions of interest to proceed with Huawei. We have a more unique situation than you down there - a larger land mass to cover (and 5G infrastructure is expensive from what I understand - much more cells than 4G / LTE), but 1/10 the population to pay for it. I think that China sees this as their way to buy off our nation in a manner not that dissimilar to their approach in sub-Saharan Africa.
