True, but one 'news agency' reported the victim as male, another reported it as 'female'....

So what was it? Male, female, or an 'it'?

And they wonder why we don't trust the media....:shakes head:

More dead in Washington. :(

Zingston 03-02-2020 03:07 PM

Lets not forget, per the cdc, the regular flu kills between 12,000 to 61,000 annually in the US alone.

And that's an 'approximate' number, I'm not sure those numbers are accurate. :wtf2:

We won't know for sure how bad this really is until it's over with. The Spanish Flu went 2 years before it petered out. The 2nd year was worse then the 1st year as for the number of deaths. Just have to see how this plays out. But why take chances on finding yourself on a cold stainless steel table.

Actually, It's "Rusty's Little Shop of Horror's". Some weird chit has come and gone in it. :icon14:

I've got even less room in the garage right now. :shakes head: Can't even swing a dead cat over my head without hitting something.

Actually, sometime last week, I was browsing through this thread and someone mentioned about being out of hand sanitizer in their area. I immediately went out, and bought a crapload of hand sanitizer, including multiple refill bottles, Clorox wipes, antibacterial soaps and multiple refill bottles for these also.

That's the kicker. According to the news, neither of the infected have any travel history (I'm not sure if this means they are not telling us, if it is unknown, or they just haven't traveled outside of the US). But, they are being "self-isolated", which again, I have no idea what that means. I doubt they are in quarantine, so who's to say they might go out for an errand and spread the virus.

Please don’t compare this thing to normal flu.
  • A recovered person does NOT generate immunity to this. One can get reinfected.
  • It skips “normal” sequences of symptoms, directly attack the lungs, pneumonia like symptoms, which is not fun.
  • This thing leaves permanent damage, scar tissues in the lung. Small patch, a healthy lung can compensate the reduced effectiveness by working harder. Big patch may need lung transplant.

We really don’t know wtf this thing is yet, nor the real long term health implications. What one wants to do is one’s choice, just don’t under estimate it.

And one more thing....among the more modern economies, big developed country, I can’t name one ruling body that can violate human rights the way Chinese government can.

Overnight, it can order a stop to an entire city...below things were done in a large scale...
  • All factory shuts down
  • All citizens stay home.
  • Police nailed boards to residential buildings entrances/exits to lock people in.
  • Restricting info outflow. Anybody attempting to report and record the truth disappears. Any recording evidences get erased (except for some IT savvy enough to bypass blockage to post videos to dark webs or western websites)

Don’t even get me started in the mortality rate....the funeral home workers in those heavily hit area are working OT on top of OT cremating dead bodies. There are dead bodies without cause of death being identified simply because there wasn’t enough coroners or time (there’s a newly imposed time limit of like 1.5 hrs from death @ hospital to picked up by funeral home worker).

So with all that said....with the extreme measures and cover up, this thing still blew up in China, so bad that citizens are getting outraged.

I have two little ones, I hope to god things get contained in US. But there’s no cure to virus (unlike bacterial infection). The only way to contain this is to be mindful, considerate and diligent. Under estimating this virus won’t do anybody any good.

To add to China's problems. Why would China quarantine 800 million people. Their population is 1.4 billion. That's over half being quarantined.

cv129 03-02-2020 11:28 PM

This is election season, I understand nobody wants a mass panic.

But, if people are getting sick left and right even under those extreme measures, I would definitely not under estimate this virus now that it has spread to the US.

I was born and raised in Hong Kong. So while I was raised under heavy English and western influence, I was in close enough proximity to know how the Chinese government operates. They have tried like hell to “stop the bleeding”, human rights became nonexistent, but still couldn’t keep the virus in check. This worries me.

FL 4Motion 03-03-2020 12:17 AM

The Spanish flu was so deadly/bad bc it seemed to affect young healthy people worse than older people who “normally” are the ones more susceptible to the flu, also 1918 health care vs today is different.

This corona virus seems to be more like a traditional infectious disease such as seasonal flu where the elderly and those with preexisting conditions are most susceptible/ at risk of serious complications and death.

The mortality rate is around 2% but perhaps lower since a whole lot of people have most likely been infected but recovered, never were tested and only had mild to moderate symptoms aka seemed like a cold or regular flu.

It’s a serious health issue but all this panic is unwarranted and overblown. Take reasonable precautions and be smart about going in public spaces and if sick, stay home but this ain’t the Spanish flu or the bubonic plague, or Ebola.

Now if it mutates and becomes more deadly....but hopefully that doesn’t happen.

JARblue 03-03-2020 07:44 AM

Once healthy, middle-age people start dying in droves, then I will continue to not worry. My immune system is either good enough or it's not. Hand sanitizer is not the solution.

Adding to that, the Chinese government is not allowing food shipments into the cities that are 'quarantined'.... who knows how many people died from their bioweapon or died from starvation.....The problem can be solved simply.....12 empty tubes, 144+ mushroom clouds, it's Miller time.... :tiphat:

You would think. There are currently 2 cases in Florida, 1 of which is my area. From what the local news outlet reported, this person is a 20-year-old female who RECENTLY went to northern Italy and came back with the virus. Why in the world would you go to a place with a major outbreak? The virus didn't happen overnight and it's been some time since the outbreak. Furthermore, why would the US let her back into the country after visiting another country with a known issue AND having contracted the virus, and let her go about her way? The news outlet also stated she is being isolated at her home, however, this is extremely subjective. Is anyone monitoring to ensure she stays home and keeping herself isolated? This is, of course, just my thoughts and opinion (disclaimer covered).

I agree, but it see this two ways. This sh!t is serious, but the media is making this into a bigger issue. IMO, I believe that nature will take its course and the survival of the fittest theory. Though I think the masks, antibacterial soaps, hand sanitizer, etc. all have an influence on the severity of how it's spread and on the suffering of the individual should they contract the virus, but at the end of the day, I also feel as if these items only provide a greater false sense of security. It's like wheel locks - they are theft-deterrent to a certain degree, but if someone really wanted your wheels, there are ways around the wheel locks. Again, this is just my thoughts and opinion (disclaimer covered).

There's no way to avoid it as we'll all be exposed at some point. Cat's out the mf`ing bag. Hand sanitizers and face masks wont help. No need to live in fear, it wont help.

Iran is getting hit hard. 23 members of the ruling class got it. One of them is dead. One number I read said that over 200 are dead. Over hundred thousand infected. They just let the inmates out of the jails. Just the one who have less then 5 yrs to serve.

This virus is worse than the flu, but it's not bad as SARS. Just where does it fall on the scale? I don't think we will know until next fall when they had a chance to crunch the numbers. And I don't think China will ever tell the truth on the numbers.
