Did anybody watch Trump's nCoV briefing? tl;dw version: Don't worry. Us geniuses have it all under control. Wash your hands.

For some reason, I am not reassured.

Better than the Dumocrats running around in circles yelling the sky is falling. There are no guarantees as far as I am concerned. We will have to wait, watch, and see.

Neither am I. They're trying to ease the fears of the virus. Look at what other countries are doing. Cancelling school until April, Nothing going in or out of their boarders.

Yep. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. My gut feeling is that we will not get hit too hard this year. But if the virus does what the spanish flu did a hundred ago. The 2 year will be bad.

It's not any better. It's just as bad.

After seeing this comment earlier today, I went out to buy some hand sanitizer. 2 different Walmart Supercenters were completely out, even in the travel section. The CVS next door had just restocked their shelves, to which I bought out every bottle. Bed Bath & Beyond had a line out the door, so I went to Super Target and they were out of the large refill bottles, but had a few of the regular pump bottles, to which I bought everything.

Then from Thailand to other parts of the world. This is how the Chinese is getting around the ban.

As I said in a post earlier, China got me (and now the rest of the world) fcuked up.

Probably significant amounts of hydrocarbons and other crap from street runoff so would need carbon media or something similar. Any suggestions?

What? Southark370Z asking for suggestions? History has been made. You are always the advisOR, not the advisEE. I'm shocked this isn't covered in your FSM ;) lol

Yes, this coronavirus is a MOFO, but I think the media is really adding fuel to the fire of creating mass panic and making it bigger than what it really is. I don't think this virus will get out of hand here in the US. Between 100 years ago and now, I think we have advanced, although the viruses have also. Remember SARS, H1N1, MERS, and Zika? A month from now when this wuhan virus is on the backburner, we'll all be back in this thread and laughing at the tags of Jar!

Yikes! I wonder if they put a hold on any PCS - permanent change of station, for anyone going on/from those ships

PCS orders are easy peasy to modify. A couple of weeks either direction won't hurt a thing.

Imagine your ETS date landing on the same day they decide to make your ship sit in the middle of the ocean for a few weeks.... after completing a long cruise. :ughdance:

Been there, done that. Involuntary extensions happen all the time. It's how I would up with a transfer date to the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve of 1 Aug 1994, instead of 12 July 1994......

Yeap, happens all the time. Stop loss is real. They can extend you for months. 2 weeks, no big deal.

two problems: pocket-sized and gas station lol.

the pocket-size ones don't last for sh!t (3 squirts and it's done) and gas stations charge like $3-$4/bottle (not to mention, shelf life may be done).

HIV > coddling.

JARblue 02-28-2020 03:31 PM

If you die from HIV, well.... shìt happens. If you coddle your immune system you die from things like an allergic reaction to touching the lubricant on the condom you use to practice putting one on alone at home.

It’s been here. I believe the cases above are making waves because these individuals have not been to china nor in contact with others from china, and it’s a mystery how they contracted the virus.

Rusty 02-29-2020 02:33 PM

Be glad that you're not in China.

^^ I don't understand why people are wearing those masks. It's been proven that those masks are essentially useless because they don't form a seal around the mouth/nose area and people can still catch the virus.

It's true that the virus is small enough to pass through the mask. But the virus is attached to a droplet that's too to pass through.

Any mask that doesn't fit good will let stuff through. If you have ANY facial hair, scares, deformities. The mask will leak. With the hazmat training I had. We had to be fit tested for different masks. From the simple mask all the way up to the full SCBA face mask. During testing, if your mask leaked. You would know it with the inhalant that they used. Soon as you smelled it, you were coughing. No faking it.

SouthArk370Z 03-01-2020 07:39 AM

I'm hoping someone can explain this to me. The gobmint is saying 'quit buying masks; they don't do any good. We need to save them for people doing healthcare.' If the masks don't work, why do the doctors, nurses, etc need them?

Sounds like part of our NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) training, the inhalant was CS gas..lol
I wish I had kept my m25a1 and m17 gas masks. We drilled so much that from the time we got an alarm to the time I had the mask on and sealed was about 2-4 seconds.
