Apparently I have been using the wrong term for the lumber. My source tells me that what I have been calling rafters are actually (ceiling) joists. Mea culpa.

I used to call those "sky wood," but then my 4th grade teacher sent me to the social worker...

I need a bigger garage. I got 30 lbs of crap in a 5 lb garage. :shakes head: Can't even swing a dead cat over my head without hitting something. :shakes head:

No garage is ever big enough.

That's where I was when I started this project. Found a receiver with 8-track recorder that I bought when I was in HS. Plugged it in and no lights. Glad I saved that all these years. :shakes head:

Just going to do some cleaning up and it has turned into a major project.

I'm just impressed you've done what you've done in that coffin of a garage. I have a 2.5 car garage and it feels cramped if everything isn't put away.

Right now, I have the Z and one motorcycle in it. You should have seen it when I was doing trackdays with motorcycles. There would be at least 6 bikes, and 3 of them in pieces.

The computer cabinet is gutted!

Backed a pickup into the garage and dropped the tailgate. Only 3-4" difference between bottom of tape drive sled and tailgate. Unplugged wiring and slid the main tape drive unit onto the tailgate. Salvaged four 12.5"x19" circuit boards for wall "art." Moved pickup to curb and slid the tape unit onto the ground.

Managed to wrestle the tape drive sled onto garage floor and started adding pieces to my scrap metal bin. This thing is built like a tank. I've stripped everything off the sled that was bolted/screwed on and it still weighs about 50 pounds. I now have several dozen machine screws with star washers for my collection. :)
Trying to decide what to do with the sled. Welded construction so I can't easily take it apart. Since I have all the hardware to mount it in the cabinet, I may move the rails to the bottom and use it as a "subcabinet." I'd hate to scrap it - it's a well-built piece - but not sure I'll have a good use for it.

Haven't done much the last two days. Mostly "puttering around." Went through some boxes and threw away some more junk. Got the shop vac after the deteriorated sound deadening foam that got on the floor when I gutted the cabinet. Screwed some hooks into the wall and hung up some extension cords. Still looking for a good place to store the jack stands.

I did manage to get all my whet stones gathered up and in one box. I used to make trips to Hot Springs, AR, where they have a lot of rock shops (yep, ppl will pay good money for a shiny rock someone picked up off the ground in their backyard) and I could get various grades of whet stones (with small defects on one side) for cheap.

My buddy has just about convinced me to throw away the tape drive sled - it's heavy, has a barrier about halfway down the sled that cuts most of the space in half, yadda, yadda, yadda. I would like to give it to someone who could make use of it, but I doubt there's anyone like that nearby.

Post up a pic of the sled if you don't mind. Got a buddy in Sulphur Springs that might be interested and could pick it up.
