That's what gets my dad too at this point. He's still in good shape for cardio, still strong, but his left knee is completely shot. To quote him "I never pictured myself being one of those people that grunts going down stairs, but here I am."

Too bad, I really wish he could come along. I have good memories of hiking with him.

You don't have to be old to have that problem. Both of my knees are shot. It all started back in 1993 when I tore my left knee ACL in half. 2009 I tore my meniscus in my right knee so bad they removed 60% of it. Now, I just do the best I can. I am cussing under my breathe going up and down any stairs.

That's what got him. He's torn both of his ACL's and both of his meniscuses (menisci?). Had experimental surgery to replace his right meniscus, worked well, but cost him an entire year of rehab and a ton of medical bills, so although that leg is now back to 'normal' he's not really sure he'll do the other one.

Pepper is due for her second round of Vaccinations this week. I was looking over the paperwork from when the GF took her for her first round. The vet gave Pepper a Rabies Cert... hmm...Pepper is barely 3 months old... Rabies cert is given at 4 months... Also it took a little over a WEEK to get the results of Peppers stool sample AND we had to call them TWICE to get the results..time for a new vet...

Man, at that point I'd just be like "take it off and gimme a store leg."

I get that perspective, but that'd also kill my dad. He's been ultra active his entire life. Right now he can still ski, and as long as he keeps it to 1x per week, he can run (albeit with pain). Being relegated to a life without sports would be a slow death.

That's a big NO. The pain you have to endure for a knee surgery is not freaking joke not including the side affects and the limitations as was stated above. I hear this all the time from someone who has never had a major knee surgery. It really gets annoying. The day the Dr. get's me is the day I have to crawl in the dang door and NO sooner.

When it's time for joint replacement. You will know when. Because you can't stand the pain. Hip replaced at the age of 47. Been through 10 surgeries. For a while, I thought my Ortho was my PCP. Seen him more than my regular doctor. As they say. My youth has caught up to me. I was not easy on my body in my younger days

My fiancee has had one knee done and will have the other one done sometime this winter. Outside of odd feelings when the weather changes, the new knee works well and doesn't give her any pain. She was up and walking on it the same day after surgery. I hear from several people that have had knees/hips done and the difference in pain level is night and day. I'm still using my OEM knees, (fingers crossed) and I hope to for many years to come.

Not all knee surgeries are that successful. I have had people tell me their first one was great, the second one is giving them trouble.
