I can remember back in the 70's. The snow would come just before Thanksgiving and stay until March. And every spring. The Monongahela River would flood from the spring melt. In 76, the river froze over and we use to walk across it. My mom said that back in the 30's and 40's. They would drive cars on it.  The last really big snow we had was in 94. Had 44" of snow sitting on my deck. Had a snow drift in front of the house that was about 20ft tall, 2 blocks long, and about 60ft wide at it's base. I had to dig through that sucker to get to work. :shakes head:

These youngsters have never seen a really bad winter. Just wait. It's coming.

We had the blizzard of '78 here. I think the last time it was really bad was late 80s maybe. Winters have been mild for a long time versus when I was growing up. Hell, we had 10' piles on the sides of the roads as a norm in the early 80s. We would toss snow balls over them and try to hit cars lol

Back then. The solar cycles. The sun spot level was low (hard winters, hot summers). The sun spots started to increase in the 90's (mild winters, mild summers), and peaked in 2008. Since then. the sun spots have been decreasing. So we are going back to hard winters and hot summers. Australia just had a record breaking cold winter. Now they are having a record breaking hot summer. It seems like we lag behind them in weather patterns.
