FP, I completely sympathized with you over your own work situation. Even in a relatively small office, I'm interrupted every few minutes.
it sucks. the only light i can see is that there's a chance i may be able to begin working from home if some changes go through.

they have begun to "modernize" our office with doing less cubes, open cubes, open collab spaces, quiet zones, aka snowflake office type set up.

but this brings new classifications of workers. anchors, flex, full remote

i believe my group is pushing for flex/remote.

our IT department probably has plenty of fun things to deal with if you want some work lol

think we have a hacking attempt daily. Russians just got close few years ago the Chinese were hanging out in a nearby hotel trying to hack in from there.

Wish I had that kind of fun in IT. It's why I made the move over to telecommunications.

My setup is a bit different, but my wife (works for cyber security for JPMC) deals with that.

I'm in QA, so we have a climate controlled office located at the back of the shop which I share with the other inspectors. However because it's QA, and because other people who work here don't know their jobs, I get a steady of influx of people, like our buyers (who don't know how to write contracts or place orders), our engineers (who don't know basic GD&T, much less how to design a part we can actually make), our manufacturing staff (who are pissed when I reject their product which doesn't meet drawing requirements), our management (who are generally pretty good but need a lot of data - this is actually my job, and I'm glad for the chance to do it), and our shippers (who often ship product to the wrong location/in the wrong type of container/using the wrong shipping method).

This is one of the mornings where enough has gone south at the same time that I'm not really enjoying my day.

Never been on the east side of a hurricane. I am always on the west side. The wind was warm. Not cool at all like on the west side. Strange.

I'd love to work remotely, but since I build the silly thing, I'm stuck.

My break is going out to do installs. I get to go to new places, meet strange people (biomed folks are an odd bunch) and eat different food. I was in Spokane Monday & Tuesday, got there about noon on Monday and had time to explore a bit. I found a tobacco shop (!) and had a nice chat with the owner. I told him I was surprised to find a tobacco shop, considering the efforts Washington is going through to 'force' people to be healthy. He said "We are normal people on this side of the Cascades"....

I won't say my job is secure, but if I were to leave, they wouldn't have a clue about 99% of how to build this device. Oh there are drawings, work instructions and device history records, but the deep down 'ya gotta assemble it in this order' info isn't written down anywhere. The girl that I called 'the chief engineer' (had never assembled anything more complex than a wardrobe) decided she didn't want to incorporate the 'this is the exact order to assemble' in any of the documentation.

Back on October 17, 2007, I was travelling from ATL to SMF on the last flight of the day. While waiting for the plane to board (please note that I was not flying Delta much back then, so I had no status) I struck up a conversation with a woman (Katherine) who was also waiting for the flight. I do not do this as a rule.

We talked for a while and found that we were both headed home to Sacramento. She suggested that we have lunch at some time in the near future and I agreed. Anyway, we boarded the plane. I was in the exit row and she was near the rear. I promptly fell asleep for a while and when I woke up decided to head back to see her.

Amazingly, she had one of the very few open seats right next to her so I sat with her for most of the rest of the flight. We had a nice conversation and found that we each had similar upbringings and lived in some of the same places. It turns out that each of our fathers were retired US Navy Captains.

To cut to the chase, we began seeing each other seriously and married exactly a year later on October 17, 2008. We felt the date was meaningful because it was fate that brought us together in Atlanta.

Now we are approaching our 10-year anniversary next month. We are celebrating by taking a Delta flight back to Atlanta on the same day we met (October 17) and then staying at the Marriott Marquis for a few nights.

still not bad. i typically have to work with our QA people when we need to evaluate and new/existing supplier that will be providing any quality/safety type of work/products.

haha yea at the moment i feel that if they would ax me and the 2 other people in my group the entire major corporation would be in a bit of trouble. it's insane to me that all the higher people have little to no idea on how anything actually works lol

I had a DDOS attack on one of my clients a few years ago. That sucked because as an independent, I dont have anyone to bounce ideas off of. If your Internet Connection is disrupted, is your office SOL?
