Good luck to them. Unless the bitcoin community wants to pay the taxes it ain't gonna happen. The government can take it from companies accepting bitcoins, but they'll never get capital gains taxes from individuals that don't want to pay it.

I've seen brick and mortar bitcoin stores that will pay you cash for bitcoins or vice versa. No identification exchanged, so I'm not sure how anyone would find out you made a bunch of cash from selling them.

We've been cleaning for weeks now it seems. Mostly just little stuff left, but there are a couple of big tasks that need to get done but I don't have the ambition. One is to finish trimming out the new wine niche we put in under the stairs and the other is installing new wall mount for the TV and new wall mount speakers including rerouting the in-wall speaker wire. Not really interested in doing either of those.

We took that cruise. That was 10 days spent there. We didn't put up much Christmas stuff because of that. My Z is still up on jack stands. Have to install the OS Giken diff, the diff cooler, the SPL rear upper control bushings, SPL sub-frame bushings, Z1 brake bracket, hood vents. After all that. Alignment and state inspection. Plus finish the basement remodeling job I started last winter.

Good luck finishing all that by Monday :icon17:

From what I read. The gov't just has to follow the transactions. They will have no problem with that. All the gov't's is holding back and wanting to see how this will play out before dropping the hammer. The Chinese have done some things already. They all want their pound of flesh. If they can't get it. They will close it down.

No matter what we think. The gov't WILL have the last word in this.

They can follow the transactions all they want. What they have to do is associate the transaction with an individual. Right now I'm sure it would be easy for the government to do so because bitcoin users know they aren't doing so just yet. Once they do start trying to tax bitcoins, the transactions will start going through different channels to avoid government oversight. Eventually it may have to go underground completely, but it is likely the bitcoin economy online is sufficient enough to survive in an isolated environment; there's a lot of stuff you can purchase anonymously with bitcoins. Or they'll just use currencies outside the US government's jurisdiction. It's not hard to convert foreign currency to US cash without the government's knowledge of who the money belongs to.

Where does one view this?

It'll be interesting to see what happens. If the government has trouble taxing individuals, I'm wondering if they'll go after legit US companies that accept bitcoins. This current administration probably wouldn't do that, but who knows.
