The cars in the Fox News video were just "transportation", except for the Porsche of course.

And your point is . . . ? Do you mean to suggest that what this valet did is okay as long as he doesn't do it to nice cars?

vipor 12-16-2009 08:25 AM

It's only okay to do that to someone else's car if there's a little green "E" on the back of the car

Also any car with purple LED running lights under the car.

That will vary from tuner to tuner. It's not cheap. You can also buy your own Osiris license direct from Uprev if you want. Osiris standard is $500. But that's not going to include any dyno tuning. Personally, I wouldn't get this just for the extra maps. You're doing a tune for the sake of the tune and performance gains. The extra maps are just bonus features. Or to put it another way, they're side dishes, not the main course. On the other hand, I guess it could depend on one's individual situation. Like if one were in a situation where he has to hand his car over to a valet frequently, then I could see how it might be worth getting this just for the sake of the extra maps, even if one isn't getting a tune. The Cobb AP is a little more expensive. Like closer to $700 if I remember correctly.

I forgot to mention, if you happen to know how to do your own tuning, you can get Osiris Tuner for $700.

That's why I NEVER, and I mean NEVER, leave my car in valet parking. Even if I need to park 1 mile away, valet parking NEVER touches my car.

I've been like this not only with the Z but with all the cars I've previously driven.

I don't even like leaving the car at the dealership for service!... I always write down the mileage and if it is excessive, I question it. Luckily me dealer is very good with the service vehicles.

What a terrible thing to do...however...it does look like fun!

NYBladeZ 12-16-2009 09:52 AM

when I have to valet I'll take the valet in the car with me, park it where he wants to and hold onto my keys, usually throw him a few dollars to make him happy and keep an eye out.

My car has been dyno-tuned using Uprev Osiris. When you get a tune, you can have extra maps loaded to your ECU. In addition to my performance map (aka regular driving map), I have a valet map and an anti-theft map. (There are actually 5 slots, so you can have a max of 5 maps. Some people have maps for low-octane fuel that retards the timing, for example.) The maps work by modifying the rev limit and/or speed limiter. For my valet map, I have the revs limited to 3000 rpm, and for my anti-theft map, I have it limited to 1000 rpm. (You can set them to whatever you want when you build the maps.) So whenever I park my car out in public, I load the anti-theft map and have the peace of mind of knowing that even if someone managed to hotwire my car, or somehow got a hold of my fob or whatever, they can start the engine, but they're not going anywhere (unless they happen to know I have Uprev and also know how to switch the maps, which is unlikely for some douchebag who makes his living by stealing cars). With the valet map loaded, one can drive the car at a decent enough pace to park it, but they'll be SOL if they try to rev the car up to do a burnout or go out on the street to do hard acceleration runs.

With Uprev, you switch between maps using your cruise control buttons. You hold down the Coast/Set toggle switch, and tap the Cancel button the number of times corresponding to the map slot you want to load, then release the toggle switch. For example, let's say you want to load the map that's in slot 3 (there's a max of 5 slots, as previously mentioned). You hold down the toggle, tap the cancel button 3 times, then release the toggle. The green cruise control light (the one that lights up when you turn your cc on) will flash 3 times to confirm that you've loaded in map 3. That's it, you're done. You have to remember which map is in which slot, of course. And it's advisable to not switch maps while the car is in motion. Like if you're cruising along at 3000 rpm and load the anti-theft map, that would be bad.

The other tuning tool available for our cars is the Cobb AP. It also provides all these extra maps, but with the Cobb AP, you'd have to connect the AP device up to your OBDII port and load the desired map via the device. Cobb AP is a handheld device that stores all your maps, does the data logging, etc. With Uprev, you use your laptop to do the tuning and data logging, etc., then you upload all your maps into the memory slots and they're always available without having to reconnect your laptop or any device.

Sorry for my dumb question but I judging from your message this is on the stock ECU? Not an aftermarket ECU.

Thanks for the info. The anti-theft map should be especially useful for other peeps.

I had a friend who was a valet and would do this alll the time. Take a lambo... film with his phone as he would scream down the streets... hence the used to have a friend part.

One night one of the guys there, took a bentley continental and pulled this crap off, but ended putting the car into a wall. And a whole investigation came up and the place was shut down... none of the valets where fined, but they should have been.
