Hi all, So attached is a picture of an odometer from 300zx that I was looking at. As you can see, the far left number seems to be extremely faded.

Odometer Fraud?
Hi all,
So attached is a picture of an odometer from 300zx that I was looking at. As you can see, the far left number seems to be extremely faded. My first thought is that someone tampered with the odometer. But, I also have no idea why the number would be faded if someone did that. Anyone have any idea or experience with analog odometers having faded numbers? |

The sun faded it. The left number hardly ever moves. How long as the car been sitting with the sun burning through the window.

See how the numbers are not even from left to right. This is a sign of tampering. They should be perty darn straight except for the last one. So the possibility of tampering is very possible. This is not a guarantee though.
At the age of the car, does it really matter? Unless they want top dollar. The car would have to match the miles. Gauge clusters can be changed also and make the miles report incorrectly. If it has been changed there would be a sticker on the cluster stating so unless it was done by a shade tree. Last edited by Spooler; 07-05-2017 at 10:14 PM. |

That's about normal for the numbers being straight on some cars. If you see numbers about 1/4 off. Then question it. Spooler is right about replacing the whole cluster.
