I've actually yet to find anybody on the forums from the Dallas area, except like a handful of people. Which is odd because there's quite a few of them out here, I'd think they'd be a little more active here but ehhh guess not haha

I settled on not accepting that job offer. While the notion of being a real IT Manager and potential room for Dept ownership would be really nice. I am still flip flopping like crazy on switching jobs. I don't want to drive ungodly hours frequently, especially during winter. The lack of vacation days really irked me, and the 5k increase in pay isnt worth the difference.

i have a cushy job here. I'm the sole IT guy, get treated well, and get to buy myself all the latest toys to play with. I get a decent bump in pay at the end of the year written into my contract and hopefully will have total control over my operations here within another year or 2. I'm only 28. That much responsibility will take time and dedication to learn.

On the bright side of things, the pest control guy hit a water line while drilling holes for the termite bait stations. The bright side is that I don't have to pay for it

Man did it feel weird not accepting the offer. They didn't try to counter offer anything. I just told her I couldn't accept due to the amount of traveling involved. I hope I made the correct decision to stay where I am at. lol.

Newcomer to this thread, but after reading through the past couple of pages, I was going to say to take it. I definitely understand your reasoning, but that title is worth so much.

I went through this kind of thing about 6 years ago, went from working in a family business in construction to becoming an aerospace parts inspector. Initially a pay cut from an hourly perspective, lost my vacation time, working with new people (housing market crash destroyed me though) but within a year I was manager of my department, leveraged a better job, and 6 years later I make more 3x what I did in construction.

tl;dr - sometimes the risk is worth it in the payoff.

Edit: I also have minions now. Which is kind of awesome.

/ I appreciate the insight though. it was a struggle to accept or decline. The pay was negligible. The title def meant the most to me. But I am already an IT Coordinator that handles more responsibilities than most IT Managers I know. Plus the experience I am getting here currently far exceeds other places. It was a tough call for sure. But i got into IT for 2 reasons. 1) I lvoe computers. 2) I want to wear jeans with flip flops!! That new job was very business strict of suit/tie daily and I didn't want to drive in blinding blizzards when November through April hit.
