The hood basically shrank though hahahaha. If I tweak the hood to fill the gap on the left, it'll make the gap on the right larger. It has something to do with the fender/lights I would assume.

Anyone here have any experience selling a car to carmax with a lightly modded car? I'm assuming they completely lowball you since they only want stock cars on their lot

you're better off trying to sell it privately..

eastwest2300 05-09-2017 01:00 PM

heck my eclipse looked like it came outta the fast the furious and I sold it on ebay actually..

eastwest2300 05-09-2017 01:01 PM

i had calls from all over the US from people trying to buy it, ultimately a kid from maine drove down to DC and paid me cash for it... he absolutely loved the car.

I know. Just considering all paths of least resistance before going the private route. Just don't like dealing with the majority of private buyers. IE) waste of time low ballers just looking for a joy ride. :)

I'd trade it but all the cars I want are out of state.

A requirement of the purchase price as a deposit before a 'test' drive usually slows down the joyriders....:ugh2:

I got lucky I didnt deal with that too much, I broke it down as to what I actually did to the car, and the costs, and pretty much held my own to get what I felt was fair and right.

I wouldnt even do that, I'll take them for a ride.. they can poke and prod all they want, but no test drives until i've switched over the titles.

b15 05-09-2017 02:30 PM

If the guy seems legit I'll ride with him, but no way in hell I'm letting it go without my supervision.

Going home and throwing the car back up on stands. Hopefully have the bumper removed and screwing with thing. Tomorrow will be the true test to see if i can fix whatever the hell I did to the headlights and hood.

Good luck. I think there's a couple bumper/headlight removal DIYs floating around the forum too. It's pretty straight forward though.

Hood struts have nothing to do with alignment, that's all hinge. The struts also ride in ball sockets so there wouldn't be any tension at all to negate alignment.

:iagree:

Rep with gusto.

Leingod 05-09-2017 05:01 PM

So the issue is def with the headlight housing. When I took out the bolts supporting it to move it around, I could greatly fill the gap between the hood and light. But the moment I put everything and together, the gap is their. I have no way to tighten these headlight bolts anymore without risk of damaging them.

So is it a body issue at this point??

Possibly. I've taken my bumper off several times and headlights once and everything pops back into place. If you can't get yours to line up it sounds like it may have been in a fender bender.

I always had suspicions that the car was damaged. The battery hood thing was basically dremeled away at the top. The hender lining is missing clips on the problem side, and the screw mounts on the underside never matched up perfectly.

Very reputable dealership I bought it from and running reports on it showed no damage. I may run a Carfax tonight though. I know accidents can take years to show up after the fact.

SO I ended up using another nut and bolt on the last pop clip on the left side headlight housing to better align it closer to the hood. I can't find a place to shift the top of the housing closer though... At least it ALMOST looks uniform now.

As for the right side of the bumper sagging next to the right headlight. I can't figure out what else to do. Nothing will align with it properly. All clips and screws are properly in place. It's way less noticeable than yesterday, but I'll still think about it. I'm happy for now at least. Way more successful day compared to yesterday.
