You sir, make me glad I don't have kids, and I mean that as a compliment. You see, you've made me realize that I'm just too selfish to be a good father. The magnitude of your sacrifice for your son is almost beyond my comprehension. To say that you deserve kudos would be a massive understatement. My hat is off to you.

Wow. Just wow.

Props for all the heart. Glad my selfish a$$ doesn't have kids! On the bright side you can guilt him into all kinds of chores he can do with his jeep

Regardless of your sacrifice, your love of the Z means you are REQUIRED to be a permanent member here.

Default Christmas Update

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to those who gave me so much direction when I was prepping to buy my 370. As you know I ended up buying a jeep for my boy for now. Well today was the day. You should have seen his face when he opened up the car keys and ran outside to find it waiting in the driveway.

It still hurts to not have my Z, but what a rewarding feeling to make someone you love feel so good.

Your thread title is misleading. It makes me think there was a tragedy in the family.

Hopefully, your son appreciates the sacrifice and selfless act and pays it back someday.

What, sacrificing a Z isn't a tragedy? I mean, it's for a good cause obviously. But still.

I did all my homework and know exactly what I want in the Z and how much I should spend. Then the other night I watched my son, a senior in high school, waiting by the front door for his girlfriend to pick him up for their date. He's a great kid. Good grades. Incredible in sports. Honest. Everything you would want your child to be. Anyway... the Z dream will have to wait. I went to the bank, took out the money from my 370 fund (money from selling the Harley I loved in order to afford the Z), and bought the boy a jeep. Now I just walk around telling myself it will be worth it when I see his eyes on Christmas morning. It's not really helping though. I may have to start drinking.
you are definitely a great parent if my mom hadn't bought my first vehicle back in the day i never would have been driving and probably never been able to get a job to get another. its parents like you that should be inspirations to other crappy parents. you thought of your son before you thought of yourself and thats the difference between being a parent and being a great parent. i applaud your decision. +1

That's a pretty awesome story. I am sure he will appreciate it very much.

You are a wonderful father. I personally would have bought my own kid a secondhand car but that just shows the extent of what you feel your son will become one of these days that you bought him something new.

Look on the bright side...now that you bought it for him, if you need a ride he has to say yes...most of the time anyway.

Thanks guys. I really do appreciate all the positive support. Saber Rider, this wasn't a brand new jeep. It is used, but in great shape. Every first vehicle gets banged up at some point so I wasn't about to buy brand new.

Odds are I'll start looking for a used 350Z in a few months. It's not a 370, but I'm pretty sure I'd be happy for now.
