The powerline adapters (for ethernet over electrical wiring) worked great. I got nearly 150 Mbps on 200 Mbps adapters, which means the connection is very strong

Definitely upgrading to some gigabit speed adapters for the downstairs media equipment

If anyone wants the 200 Mpbs adapters to use or for testing purposes, I will gladly pass them along to a fellow forum member. You can pass along your thanks to Mr. Scott who sent them to me

Also, I got my TP-Link HS200 light switch programmed and set up with Alexa. Thank you Amazon for shipping a quick replacement - I complained about not receiving my item on Sat night and they had the replacement package delivered today

Now when I fall asleep on the couch with the light on and wake up a few hours later, I don't have to get up to turn it off

Do those adapters actually increase current speeds? Like if my subscribed speed is 20mb/s and I'm only getting say 15 will it bump me up? I assume it wouldn't be able to see speeds over the 20mb correct?

These will not increase any speeds from your ISP. They are networking tool that is used to attach equipment to your router/gateway. I use these in the basement where I do not want to use the wireless network, but a wired connection would be a pain in the rear to route through walls or floors.

Diagrams always help out

Those speeds are internal only. Think of it like an ethernet cable that runs from your router in one room to a computer (or other device) in another room. Except instead of using an ethernet cable, this device uses the electrical wiring in your walls.

Gotcha. That makes more sense now.

Would that be any more secure than wireless? Or no difference really.

Wired is always going to be more secure than wireless. You're talking about access to a physical port vs access to the air near a wireless access point.

I'm not sure if all models have them, but I know some have an option for encryption. That's really more for commercial spaces that are open to the public (so someone can't just plug in and get on your network). In your own home, you shouldn't need to worry about some random person gaining access to the physical network port. Unless maybe you host a soup kitchen or large gatherings of unknown persons

I'll have to look into this for sure, sounds like something I'd be interested in. If it uses plugs don't need to pull cat5 through the vents and all that or open up walls. Maybe this and a sonicwall would do the trick.

I am unable to run lines to the basement and these ended up being a good solution for me.
