Medal of Honor winner, 90, ordered to remove flagpole

I don't get enraged reading much - but this is absolutely ridiculous.

Henrico Medal of Honor winner, 90, ordered to remove flagpole | Richmond Times-Dispatch

I'd be honored to have this man living near me. Chances are I'd probably be at his flagpole each and every day watching the man raise and lower his flag- just so I could tell my children what I witnessed. The man is the definition of a true American Hero.

This will come off douchy and I don't intend it that way, but if one wants to do things, like put flag poles in their yard, work on cars in their driveway, and let the grass grow a little long before mowing it, why move somewhere with an HOA? There are plenty of none HOA places to live where one can have all the flags they want.
If you knowingly move somewhere with rules, you have to follow them. As awesome as I think his service to this country is, it doesn't exempt him from the same rules everyone else has to follow.

Frost, I understand your point, however:

There is no provision in the community's rules expressly forbidding flagpoles

x2 - the guy can have a flagpole on his porch like everyone else, so what's the big deal? They allow this, then before you know it the neighbor has a pink flamingo....

I live somewhere with an HOA because I don't want people doing crazy stuff, but you can't enforce rules you don't actually have, rofl. HOA fail.

That's probably one of the few high lights of his day!

Maybe he will turn on his killing switch again.

I side with the man on this one. Insane that he cannot have a flagpole to show pride for his country. I wish a few more people would show support for this country like that man, but an incident like this just puts those ideas down. He didn't agree to not be able to have a flagpole whenever he moved there, so he should have one. Besides, it's not like he's trying to do this:

He can have a pole on his porch. Like everyone else. That's the whole point of living in a planned community. You wanna flagpole, buy a house. Or maybe he could petition for a flagpole that is in a common area. I'm sure they'd let im be the flagpole guy.

Its just a flag pole and american flag....what harm can be done? I'm seriously people get pissed cause a veteran wants to show his patriotism, yet in San Fransico middle eastern immigrants are protesting anti-jewish/american and we just sit back and say "oh their exercising their freedom of speech". Gaza War Protest

j.arnaldo 12-04-2009 01:03 PM

The very fact that there are places that prohibit you to be patriotic tells a worrisome tale. Liberals in the Shadow Govm't are changing America for the worse, no doubt. It's a matter of "when", not of "if". When "Gay Pride Parades" are hailed as a "right" or "freedom of expression/speech", but you can't have your Nation's banner, well...there's SOMETHING dead wrong with "civil rights" that are selective in their scope.
