Heck, I'd be happiest with only 6x6 but it has to be solid enough to mill 316L Stainless. 4 axis preferred of course, but that's a set up think probably falls outside of the DIY category to assemble off eBay parts lol
Lets think about this and come up with a sweet 5 axis milling machine

I could get down with that, but I already know from talking to a supplier in the past even a small mill, or perhaps especially a small mill, will need to be extremely heavy to be stable enough to mill really hard steels like that.

So my 6"x6" table would still end up taking up half of that bedroom lol

I was just joking. I was an aerospace machinist for over a decade, I cant imagine a cnc capable of cutting steel in a bedroom or even a normal houses basement.

Everybody I know runs them in a pole barn or some other type of outbuilding. one of my old bosses had one in his garage attached to the house and he was always complaining about how much it sucked.

I wouldn't even put that guys table, which I assume is for wood, in the house. His setup looked cool but the though of all the dust inside made me cringe. Even a pretty good dust collector system still blows a lot of dust around, especially if you're working with MDF. Used to hate cleaning up the shop after that stuff!

I would however tolerate a good mill in the garage no problem. Just set it and go for coffee

Ive known a handful of guys that bid on contracts or got extra overload jobs from our place of employment. They would go home, fire up the machine and go make dinner. made for some nice pocket change, until something on the machine broke. Which they do, often.

I have the wood shop in the basement and it still kinda sucks. There are 2 doors between the shop and finished basement. I have to run the air filter and always use the dust vacs on the power tools. I still have to sweep the whole place every time I use it.

I should insulate and drywall the other garage, get a heater out there. I like making projects during the winter, where I am warm and not outside

I hear that loud and clear. Waiting for it to warm up so I can start the teardown on the car. I'll be parking outside while the car is in the middle of the garage and I'm not interested in scraping windows or brushing snow off!
