Ford WTF

So I have seen some of fords new commercials. I just start laughing at how stupid some of the features are they are "showing off" I mean come on, growing a digital tree...................wow I mean really. And talking about how they can change the color to pink and not having a gas cap. WTF are they seriously trying to sell a car based on these "features"

m4a1mustang 11-24-2009 10:03 PM

It's called marketing to the masses (and it's working). Get over it.

bigaudiofanat 11-24-2009 10:11 PM

Na I wont get over it, I think it is some of the funniest stuff I have seen.

bsramzy 11-24-2009 10:24 PM

it is catchy. they definantley know how to capture your attention.

problem is their lineup changes so much between renaming vehicles and adding new models. i dont know how they can keep up.

vash_241987 11-24-2009 10:33 PM

what do you guys think about the ford tarus SHO commericals where they put it up against other luxury cars. IMO....I doubt the interior of a ford can match that of an audi.....and "ecoboost?".....so thats what their calling turbocharged cars these days :roflpuke2: too bad its been used for awhile.

It's all marketing and like I said, it's working. They have been doing a terrific job.

The SHO is actually a nice car. The materials might not be the same as an Audi, but then again neither is the price. They still are pretty good, though.

And it's not like luxury car material quality is that fantastic to begin with. Take the new Mercedes... they use cheap plastics all over the place!

I agree not even close.

I am not sure how they are doing a terrific job if all they can talk about is how you grow a tree. If anything GM is doing a much better job.

Dude... go listen to Akon or something.

For the sake of the humanity, do not major in anything business related. :shakes head:

^I agree, it is working! There are lots of new Fords out there, lots!

hmmm gonna give that one on the MB plastic :bowrofl: driven in their bluetec suv's and let me tell ya, I hate the dash in their m-class, but loved the leather dash in one of their gl-class. I think ford will really blow away the other muscle cars when they introduce the ecoboost mustang....though I heard of purist resisting it, but some say ford will bring back a 5.0 for those who want the v-8

LOL no biggie I just think GM is actually trying to get people to buy products. I am not trying to be a business guy of sort.

m4a1mustang 11-24-2009 10:48 PM

The purist Mustang fans resist everything not-V8, but most of them don't ever consider the fact that if it wasn't for the V6 models there would be no V8. :)

I find it interesting (and ridiculous) that you think that. All of the evidence points the contrary.

Ford pulls down GM's pants on a daily basis.

This coming from a member with mustang in his name

I am just stating what I see how bad ford commercials are. The truck ones are good but other than that na.

Agreed. SHO just got a terrific review in Car & Driver this month.

Ford and GM are putting out the best vehicles in their history right now, IMHO.

I can tell that you are a very gullible guy, because if you actually watch those GM ad spots you can tell that they are a very, very desperate company. All they do is raise their inferior product on a pedestal and attempt to poke fun at the competition. They stoop to the level of a 5 year old and make themselves look silly, all while they are losing market share and slipping in quality ratings.

GM is a company with an ***-backwards corporate culture. Their business model is one of, "ignore everything that's going on in the world and keep on doing it the GM way." No wonder they needed billions in taxpayer dollars just to cling to life for another few years before someone finally lets them croak.

You think Ford's commercials are stupid, but the American consumer is actually out there buying Ford products. While GM and Chrysler were running themselves into the ground, Ford corporate was restructuring the business. They revamped their debt structure... invested heavily in improving product quality, developing new lines, and figuring out what the market wanted. The result? No taxpayer funding needed, they are gaining North American market share, they have bridged the quality gap with the Japanese, and they are spending less on incentives. GM is having to push more incentives to try and lure people to buy!

Ford is an American success story. Whether you like them or not, they have done a fantastic job with the company.

Whether or not I have Mustang in my name or not shouldn't matter. I'm a finance guy for a living first and foremost, and I think that most people here who've read my posts know that I am not going to hold back any scorn. Just because I have a Z doesn't mean I like everything about it... see?

Moral of the story -- don't make any inferences on the health of the company based upon the entertainment value of the commercials.

While I agree, I actually think it's a little sad for GM. The potential is there for them to be great, but they have been so poorly managed for so many years the cars haven't gotten the attention they deserved.

The product line is kind of lacking right now, too. Aside from the Corvette and Camaro there really is nothing in their lineup that stands out in its particular segment.

I agree about GM mgmt. The company was so damned big, hard to change course. But....Everything Cadillac. Everything. And Malibu. I hear the G8 is not going away..good thing.

LOL, ima take a CTS-V o yeh.:excited:

bigaudiofanat 11-24-2009 11:36 PM

CTS- V X2 probably the only gm I would own.

Matt 11-25-2009 01:24 AM

I'm shopping for a SUV for the gf and we're leaning towards the GMC Terrain.
(as well as the Veracruz and Highlander). The Ford SUVs aren't even on my radar. A portion of that, admittingly, is marketing. The GMC commercials are much more product-based than the Ford commercials, imo. The F-150 commercials are kinda catchy, but that's it for me.

As far as Cadillac, I'm an EXT guy. Possibly the top of my "dream cars". Though, I'll probably settle for an Avalanche in another 2-3 years.

vash_241987 11-25-2009 01:44 AM

ok its not a SUV but the ford raptor has caught my eye as being a truck that looks to be off-road racing ready

The 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor | The official site of the Ford F-150 | FordVehicles.com

schrute 11-25-2009 01:54 AM

^That Raptor looks great. I hate Fords (former escort and taurus owner) and I would rock that truck in a heartbeat.

Next time I'm in the market for a truck I will definitely shop the Raptor if it's still around.

Ford got me to look at a Mustang with all those silly little features and I gota give it to them, they are doing a good job at getting people into dealerships with those commercials.

I've yet to see a Mustang commercial, oddly enough.

theDreamer 11-25-2009 07:38 AM

Ford's current marketing as per most is about speaking to the uneducated on your product.
~The tree in the car: that is for the hybrids, the hybrids already are just a "Feel good" car people buy. This just increases that psychologically by giving them a fake digital screen in which they can see they are doing even more "good."
~Change the color to pink, have not seen that part of the commercial yet.
~No gas cap, that is actually a huge thing, the amount of gas caps lost every year is huge. Plus for the "lazy American" it is a convenience item, wait I do not have to touch my dirty gas cap, plus one for ford.

Ford so far has shown they know how to sell a car.
Besides the new Camaro this year, there has only been one other car I see a new one every day. That is the brand new Ford Taurus, I have seen from the SHO down to the bottom of the barrel base model rolling around, that car is selling like hot cakes. The redesign Mustang is pulling in all the new V6 owners, but anyone who knows anything about Mustangs knows what is coming next year. 5.0, 6 speed manual, BBK, etc.

On the note of GM, yes they turned a profit, but they still have yet to pay back any of the money they owe the government. The profit they reported also is not all it seems currently, it is an improvement and I do hope it continues, but GM has a very long ways to go before the American public will truly trust them again. Also, look at those GM ads where they compare their cars to Honda, read that fine print in the bottom of the ad (might have to pause the TV).

My Ford days are over. Too many brake rotor changes (I'm not hard on brakes at all), too many really stupid problems with the last two Ford trucks I've owned. They may be improving quality, but it's too late for me. :icon14:

Mattie, if gasoline goes back to $4.50/gal, will you still buy a full-size truck? OK, get the Hybrid...................

If gas goes back up to $4.50 a gallon, I'll be getting my motorcycle license.

Ya but you'll mod the schitt out of it and get 25 mpg :icon14:

PS - my BMW gets 32mpg combined, never even checked the MV mileage numbers but I'd guess prolly around 35mpg...I tend to wick 'em up though :icon17:

When I get a bike, I'll probably stick with a plain-jane R6 or something. ~40 mpg, I think. Something to get me 2 miles to work for about 4 months on 1 tank.

I haven't seen a Mustang specific commercial since they switched bodystyles in 2005. I guess the Mustang is iconic enough that it sells it's self. Heck how many Stangs do you see a day? Thats a pretty good amount of advertising right there.

vash_241987 11-25-2009 09:19 AM

There has been alot of the 2010 stand on the lots, yet I've seen only a a few driving on the road here. I can say one thing, they give alot of choice to choose from.

Im sorry to say this matt, I like you I really do, but a lot of your posts are so retarted and ignorant. I think your funny, but you bash a lot of great cars because of the nameplate. Please get over it, a lot of American cars are getting very good, and anyway... what do you drive thats so much better than these "crappy" American cars.

No hard feelings tho ok?:tiphat:

bigaudiofanat 11-25-2009 10:18 AM

None at all, I do not mind ford or GM or people that like them. But I just think their commercials and some of their features are awfully strange. Ya some of my posts might be different or strange but when your bored you think of a lot of things.

Also Andy your avatar still gets me.

AndyO 11-25-2009 10:28 AM

Lol, just let me know when it stops...Then Ill change it
