New New York Plates

I searched and didn't see this posted anywhere. As of April 2010, all NY registered vehicles(cars, motorcycles, atv's,etc) will be required to pay $25 for the newly designed New York license plate and $20 to keep their existing plate number on top of the $25 charge.

New York Unveils Empire Gold License Plate

Luckily today Paterson announced he may nix the new plates because of public outcry. But no official documentation has been written up.

Seriously, this plate is horribly ugly.. I can't imagine it ruining the look of my Z...

So glad I bought my car before the new plates were being distributed.
Also, this new plate for NY (while ugly) is just a money grabber. 25USD forced to upgrade and then another 20USD if you want to keep your current letter/number combo. Texas came out with new plates (I have the old ones) and do not have to worry about upgrading until 10 years from now. :)

The last of these plates was manufactured in early 2009 and the design should be fully phased out by 2016.
I was wrong, they kept it at seven years, thought they had increased it for this change over so people could keep the current plate longer, guess I was wrong. :(
Either way I still just want a custom plate.

vipor 11-16-2009 12:02 PM

..waiting for 7-char custom plates...

Same here, I sent in an email asking and the person responded saying that they looked into it but found they have no news of them offering it in the next few years. Then again, who knows if they know who to ask about this and such.

vipor 11-16-2009 12:07 PM

yeah i went into the tax assessor's office and had them check their software. no go.

she said that the website where you can check vanity plate availability would probably be updated about the same time as their system.

theDreamer 11-16-2009 12:08 PM

Well, if you find out let me know ASAP, the plate I want currently is take but with 7 I can have exactly what I want and will be first.....muhahahahah. :D
