Yes it dose your engine is trying to "re tune" itself for the lower octane but it can not. You are always suppose to use the gas that is recommended.

ever saw that commercial where some guy is driving a beat up car and with music blasting, everyone is looking at him while he's driving.then pulls into a parking spot, turns the music off and thonk-a-thonk-a-thonk-a-thonk-a-thonk..

When I first got my '04.5 Touring Coupe, out of sheer hard-headedness, I tried 89-octane gas for about 2 months; there was no knocking/pinging/dieseling. BUT--there's that "but" again!--I read an article in Car and Driver, where they stated that, even though the car may not knock/ping/diesel, carbon formation in the valves and the combustion chamber would ensue in just a matter of weeks! So, this hard-headed Puertorrican switched right back to 93-octane nourishment for my Zed! "He who has ears to hear..."

hey darkseed, we're just ribbing you man, you can run lower octane in a pinch, but performance will suffer like others have mentioned, premium is what nissan recommends, but it's your car..:tiphat:

yes, engine knock will come from gas that does not supply enough flash. I WILL ONLY USE PREMIUM. It's a $40k car w/ 11:1 compression!!
