Same here... for the Droid users... what are some apps you all are using and would say are must haves?

So far I have downloaded Google Finance, Weather Channel, Shop Savvy, aDyno, Astrid task manager, DroidLight, Google Sky, Open Table, TasKiller, and Hi AIM.
Hi AIM seems pretty buggy so I don't know if I'll keep that one much longer. I am on the lookout for cool apps that I may or may not find useful.

I have a question regarding VZW's network. Why is it that I have full reception on 3G during idle or just web browsing but I get 0-2 bars without 3G when I'm on a call? This doesn't happen most of the time but does happen time to time such as today. I was on hold with the VA hospital for 30+mins and my call got dropped. Just wanted to skullfuck the government and VBW simultaneously. >
Also hate how the phone keep auto dimming itself when I'm on a call. I know it's a feature to prevent pushing the buttons on accident and all but it's almost impossible to not trigger it when I need to make selections. :/ Last edited by molamann; 01-28-2010 at 07:29 PM. |

The auto-dim is a proximity sensor - if you hold it up to your head, it will dim for you to not waste too much battery power. But yeah, it can be excessive sometimes. I believe the sensor is in the upper right hand corner, so...watch your fingers in that area .

I currently have an iPhone 3G. This is my 3rd one.
First one, the mic died... Second one, the slide bar would move, but the phone wouldn't unlock. Apples warranty allows me to just take it back, and if they can't fix it, I get a brand new one. Does Verizon do that with the Droid? Also, I unlock/jailbreak my iPhone so I could feasibly use any sim card in it and I can change just about any look of it to suit my tastes. Can the Droid do that? My iPhone has a Map feature that gives me directions on point. So I don't see the google feature being that specifically awesome? I have an app on my iPhone that goes directly to youtube, does the Droid have that? Also, I don't use facebook, so that app is wasted on me. But what I can use is Apps that work with my Instant Messaging services, can I still do that with a Droid? I love a touchscreen keyboard, and the small dimensions of the iPhone. I myself am not partial to a sliding KB, but for those who weren't at first, have you since grown to like it, or hate it? My thing against it is it sliding open when I don't want it to... And also the tiny buttons, being fat fingered when your trying to type. Also, if I remember correctly, Verizon doesnt use sim cards, so the phone is locked to them isnt it? So you can't take it globally, or have they changed that? Lastly, as I said before, I can unlock my iPhone and make it do whatever I want, can you unlock a Droid? Sorry for so many questions, I see the droid, I like the droid... But the iPhone does have some features that make me want to hold onto it. If this 3rd one breaks I'm done with it though. I'll just buy a Droid free lance and if I can unlock it, somehow get it on AT&T's network... if I can?

Chris, I will say you can do anything the iPhone can, maybe better, on the droid. Just remember it is not Apple's OS, it is Google so things are done differently. The look, feel, execution of many things are different but there, between apps, UI, etc.

Why is being a gsm phone such a plus? I understand the whole traveling bit. But when you go to another country you still have to buy a new sim card (pre-paid) and all your contacts are usually on your US sim-card.
I used to be the biggest fanatic of GSM, until I did the stupidity of getting a 2 year contract with T-mobile which is done this Monday, and not soon enough. I am most definitely switching over to versizon and CDMA. CDMA orks better than GSM but you loose the international ability... But for that just buy another phone just for traveling.
