I wonder if I could bring it to a shop and ask if they'd show me what to do if I pay them. I really am hesitant working on electrical stuff within a car. Not my forte.

kenchan 11-13-2015 01:42 PM

yah, any stereo install shop should be able to install it within 30min.

Leingod 11-13-2015 01:44 PM

i'd pay the $50 or whatever for the install if they'd also teach me. Lease is up next year so I'd be ripping it out eventually. Would be nice to know for future cars instead of always paying.

kenchan 11-13-2015 01:47 PM

yah, especially for something that simple definitely try it yourself. you'll be installing this camera on your Z probably after returning the civic, right?

kenchan 11-13-2015 01:50 PM

oh yah, come to think of it, i witnessed a small accident coming to work. some dumbarse in a ford festiva or some crap car side wiped a kia soul. :D it was like a loser's quarrel no one cared to stop and help. :rofl2: just a fender bender anyway.

Yea. I plan to buy another cam in the Spring. I think I'm just confusing myself when it comes to the fuses. I'm going to order this kit.

I am just confused where those bare wires go. And I assume i find the fuse box under the dash somewhere? I only have ever played with the ones in the hood of a cars.

yah, that'll work, but you'll still want to get this to hook up to your fuse box.

The RED bare wire will hook up to this, and the BLACK wire will go to any chassis ground (bolt i mentioned above).

Alright. So red wire goes into the heat shrink wrap thingie? And just tap the black wire into a bolt somewhere with the o-ring type thing you posted earlier?

kenchan 11-13-2015 01:57 PM

yep!

and just chose a switched 12v fuse, meaning it turns off when you turn off your car.
so like your power socket fuse would be a good choice. Some power sockets are powered even while the car is off, so if your camera is still on after u shut down the car, you'll want to chose another fuse.

wat u do is pull the fuse out of the fuse box, place the fuse in the add-a-circuit thingie (can't remember slot 1 or slot 2), add a new 10A fuse on the other slot, and push that add-a-circuit back into the spot you pulled out the fuse. now you got 12v power. :D

add-a-circuit can handle up to 10A.

Leingod 11-13-2015 01:58 PM

Sounds way easier to understand now. Ordering that kit, the add a fuse kit, and a 10A spare fuse. THANK YOU!!! I owe ya hahaha

kenchan 11-13-2015 02:01 PM

sound good, np. keep us posted and any questions, just post up.

Leingod 11-13-2015 02:02 PM

We shall know Tuesday when everything arrives. Thanks again!

kenchan 11-13-2015 02:14 PM

cool. sounds exciting. maybe take vid of you doing the install with that dashcam. :icon17: proof that u installed it all by urself
