I wonder when I travel to places like Arkansas, where the denizens have a particular way of speaking, do the people here think I have an accent?

Yes. When I went to SoCal, people instantly recognized me as having a NY accent. Not a NYC/brooklyn/Jersey accent. Just my tone was different. They had a relaxed and mellow tone to words. Mine were a little more high strung and quicker.

Otherwise, maybe 1 or 2 words were pronounced differently.
