I just might be ordering a new MOBO, RAM, CPU and MIGHT snag another 980 to run SLI. I am trying to convince myself to spend the cash. I kinda want to see how it will perform with a good ENB mod and when HD texture mods start showing up.

980ti or bust. i5 4960k cpu and a h110GT water cooler.

I already have a 980 so will want to match them up.

GTX cards play nice with other GTX cards. a TI in your 16x slot and your original 980 in another PCI slot would be fine.

I'm actually thinking of getting a 750ti to handle the physx stuff while my 970 does the main processing.

I was under the impression that having different amounts of vram would be a no go, not sure of any other differences between them.
