yah, especially for something that simple definitely try it yourself. you'll be installing this camera on your Z probably after returning the civic, right?
|
oh yah, come to think of it, i witnessed a small accident coming to work. some dumbarse in a ford festiva or some crap car side wiped a kia soul. :D it was like a loser's quarrel no one cared to stop and help. :rofl2: just a fender bender anyway.

http://www.amazon.com/Dash-Camera-Ve...m+hardwire+kit I am just confused where those bare wires go. And I assume i find the fuse box under the dash somewhere? I only have ever played with the ones in the hood of a cars. |

The RED bare wire will hook up to this, and the BLACK wire will go to any chassis ground (bolt i mentioned above). http://www.amazon.com/Pico-0956PT-Bl...BYC2QVF21EQD7Z |
Alright. So red wire goes into the heat shrink wrap thingie? And just tap the black wire into a bolt somewhere with the o-ring type thing you posted earlier?
|
yep!
and just chose a switched 12v fuse, meaning it turns off when you turn off your car. so like your power socket fuse would be a good choice. Some power sockets are powered even while the car is off, so if your camera is still on after u shut down the car, you'll want to chose another fuse. wat u do is pull the fuse out of the fuse box, place the fuse in the add-a-circuit thingie (can't remember slot 1 or slot 2), add a new 10A fuse on the other slot, and push that add-a-circuit back into the spot you pulled out the fuse. now you got 12v power. :D add-a-circuit can handle up to 10A. |
Sounds way easier to understand now. Ordering that kit, the add a fuse kit, and a 10A spare fuse. THANK YOU!!! I owe ya hahaha

sound good, np. keep us posted and any questions, just post up.
|
We shall know Tuesday when everything arrives. Thanks again!
|
cool. sounds exciting. maybe take vid of you doing the install with that dashcam. :icon17: proof that u installed it all by urself
|
Black wire (ground), does it need that o-ring adapter to attach to a bolt? Or can I just twist the end and hope it holds behind a random bolt somewhere if i tighten the bolt down?

if you're unsure if the bolt is a clean ground or not, u can use your voltmeter and touch one prong to a known ground (like a bolt for your clutch pedal assembly or any big metal bracket under the dash) and touch the other prong to your candidate bolt. if the volt drops to "0 volts" you got a clean ground.

amazon sells a super cheap voltmeter which works fine. you might want to get one for this and future use. pretty handy stuff to have. Volmate Digital LCD Voltmeter Ammeter Ohmmeter Multimeter Volt AC DC Tester Meter - - Amazon.com |
Alright, ordered it. What's the dial for? Specific volts obviously, but which and why?
|

u would turn the dial to exactly where that picture shows V "20" that means its in the voltmeter mode, reading 0 to 20V. - Or you can chose the o))) icon which I believe is the continuity test mode where it makes a beep sound when it detects continuity. other example you can use V "2" for 0-2V range to check your AA battery charge wat not. :D or if you want to figure out your resistor value, chose the ohm mode, etc. |

so on the way home someone got hit by a car while riding a bicycle in darkness at an intersection.. it appeared the cyclist was hurt, but probably not life threatening as he was sitting on the sidewalk with a few folks helping him.
then this faking village calls in 2 fire trucks, 2 ambulances, 5 squad cars.. for the one guy.. while holding up traffic big time.. :shakes head: no disrespect to the injured, but WTF..! :ugh: |
