Wow...

So, my car is totaled, which was slightly unexpected.

Our Camry... Is not totaled, which is totally unexpected.

They basically took the whole interior out, cleaned and dried the connectors (probably WD-40 or something similar) and they have removed the carpet from the interior and trunk and the door panels and shampooed/cleaned it all up (seats and everything) and then put it in a room with an ozone generator.

No water got into the engine or transmission. He said he's confident that none of the electronics were damaged beyond that, and once the carpet & seats are thoroughly cleaned the car will be detailed.

So the repair is only about $900. He said if in the future things happen and it can be blamed on the incident, repairs will be covered.

Now my dilemma... My wife already has a new Camry. I could buy this one from her for cheap to use as a DD, or she could sell it.

This scenario never crossed my mind, that my car could be totaled but hers not. But the ECU and electronics are so low in my car, the computers basically are all ****** and the car is worth more as salvage than to fix.

Davey 07-30-2015 05:12 PM

Nobody knows how CarFAX works. :icon17:

My insurance company says they do not notify CarFax of claims.

My shop says they do not notify CarFax of claims.

How the **** does CarFax find out about these service records?

Basically I'm wondering if I don't get rid of the car with in a short time of the repair if it's going to show up like it is "flood damaged".

Davey 07-30-2015 05:13 PM

I mean, my wife doesn't want the car... And I guess I could keep it and use it as my beater, but I'd kind of rather get something I actually like. :ugh:

Nismo89 07-30-2015 05:56 PM

me and the mrs both killed it in the gym

if u dont want the car, maybe take it to carmax and just sell it?

kenchan 07-30-2015 06:06 PM

i parked next to a dark gray accord-sport sedan today.

i looked at my fit then the accord... then the fit... then the accord.

BOTH CARS EXACTLY THE SAME!

:rofl2: (my indian neighbor's philosophy)

nono, that accord sedan is nice. looks great. i even like it in stock form in that dark gray color. :D

kenchan 07-30-2015 06:08 PM

so if i ever crash my fit, or on a lucky day when a bowling ball sized hail hits the car, then i will buy me an accord-sport sedan 6MT.

then do the washer mod. ;) jk

Leingod 07-30-2015 06:46 PM

All the supplies used to detail herhttp://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...psegqvvsou.jpg

And a little disappointed in the end. Was expecting a deep shine and gloss.http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...psejevy576.jpg

kenchan 07-30-2015 06:50 PM

cool! have fun detailing ur ride. :D

kenchan 07-30-2015 07:39 PM

so my old watch with water dat got inside due to a crack in the bottom lens (to show off the kinetic mechanism) was showing horrible condensation inside the face of the watch. i couldnt even read the numbers with all the big droplets of water. :ugh:

my wife said she could fix it by placing it in a ziplock bag with uncooked rice.
left it in there for 2-3 days and holy crap, all the condensation is gone!

i didnt know rice could be used a desiccant. :D now i can use my old watch for when im working in the garage or riding my bike or watever when exposed to harsh environments. i just cant wash it no more, just use a wet paper towel or something.

kenchan 07-30-2015 07:48 PM

dats where im at right now. i can buy the accord sport sedan, but then it will only be my dd and while the fit sucks in many ways, it serves its purpose well. :D save dat money for earn$pend on other things i want, i suppose.

kenchan 07-30-2015 07:52 PM

kid made us mapo-tofu tonight from scratch, no help from me or mom.

turned out very good :yum: taste was A+, restaurant level. he slightly turned the tofu too many times while heating causing them to crumble more than it should have, but it wasnt like in tiny pieces or anything.

i gave him an A. :D :yum:

A lot of it has been around for a year or 2. just a slow collection of stuff I find I am frequently using. And their was enough dirt on the car that those bottles simply sunk into the grime. hehe

Was still expecting more from Meguiars polish and liquid wax.....

JARblue 07-30-2015 08:32 PM

First mod installed on the Accord this evening. A trunk tray/liner

I just purchased a new navy suit with all the trimmings (no shoes yet). I was getting dressed for my wife's grandfather's funeral last Saturday when I noticed the dry cleaner had put a hole in my suit pants

As it happens, I got news shortly after his service that my own grandmother, Marjorie Rickard passed away around noon that same day. We are attending her Celebration of Life service and inurnment a week from tomorrow. She was living in an Alzheimer's facility confined to a wheelchair with very minimal physical and mental capacity for the past few years, so we know she is in a better place now.

kenchan 07-30-2015 09:11 PM

my condolences, mr. jar. :(

my condolences for the hole in the pants too.. :ugh:

Yeah, I think her car actually might be an ideal daily driver for me; nothing to worry about as far as being valuable, but also not a POS - and of course I know the service and repair history of the car, since I was involved in pretty much 100% of it (although we did buy it when it was about 1 year old with 15K on it).

Then again, it's an '05 Camry automatic snooze-fest. No bluetooth, even. Nothing. Pretty basic car.

Guess it will make me appreciate my Z more when I drive it though. :icon17:

Dude don't set stuff on the car when it's dirty. Rookie mistake. :shakes head:

I drove a Camry of the same generation as yours for the last two years. It was reliable but basic. Mine was a v6 so it did have some get up but youre right, every time I got back into the Z, it felt great. Since I travel all the time and barely drive either car, I kept telling myself to keep the Camry and spend the money elsewhere, but in the end it was a little too basic for me. Just sold it last week. For me, even though it's a DD, I just can't go completely basic.

Yeah that's what I did too; I had a Civic that was perfectly good... But boring. I would drive it down south to see my Dad on those curvy back roads and think "Damn I wish I had the Z right now" but it's unlikely I'd ever take the Z on a road trip like that. So I figured I'd look for something with a little more fun factor.

onzedge 07-31-2015 07:19 AM

I landed at LAX yesterday and when I turned my phone on saw a few texts from Andrew (Mr. DEpointfive0). I texted him back and told him I had a delayed flight and some time to kill so he came out to the airport to hag out for a while and BS with me.

Handed my buddy that works at BB a bunch of cash to pick up the 4100NEX and all the wiring harnesses and crap to go with it. Hopefully I can get it installed this weekend. :excited:
