Sadly, No Z for me. BUT! A 2009 Impala SS!

So the dealers here told me that they would know at the Abu Dhabi International Auto Show if the Z was coming to the region any time soon.

I got my answer, Not till 2011.

So, as I have said, my current car is a 600hp all motor 6.7 liter dodge charger, the "fastest charger in the middle east" and I cant drive her around everyday. The new motor went in a few weeks ago, and I want to add a TT kit in the next few years.

And since the Z isnt coming... and the G37 coupe costs 59,000 US dollars without insurance or fees. (all cars are much more expensive here than in the US) my hand was forced. This car cost me 46K US dollars. And you get alot more. add to this the fact that Im engaged, another fast car and coupe no less isnt a smart idea.

I bought the Australia made (by Holden, a GM company) Caprice SS. It is sold here as the Chevrolet Caprice Impala SS. 6.0 liter LS2, 360 hp, 6 speed auto, and all the nice things you'd expect in a car worthy of the Impala name. Its also (stock for stock) faster than a charger. a car that is called a Holden Commodore SS, and here as the Chevy Lumina SS, is the US' Pontiac G8. My new car has the same engine and tranny, but is slightly larger, and about 200 KG heavier.

I hope to get a 370Z, maybe in 2012, when I can get my hands on a used one... since the 1st thing I'd do is get a larger motor... A new one would just be stupid.

So here are a few pics of my new daily driver. Its ironic that although GM and fellow american makers are in trouble, and doing badly in the US... This is my 3rd American car in a row, LS1, HEMI, LS2, Really nice cars you guys make.

So, here she is:

Congrats! New cars are cool, and thumping V8s are mega-fun.

Sorry to hear about the z issue, but atleast you've got a V8 to tear around in.

Never been a fan of american cars.
But the cars coming out these days are looking decent.
Nice ride and you really love bigger engines don't you?!

Good looking, congrats!

Congrats!! Was importing one to Dubai out of the question?

ultrablue 01-03-2009 01:05 AM

No, Actually lots of people import cars since even with the shipping, insurance, and 5% import tax, you still save like 10K USD on a car. If its a high end car, Like an S500, you'll save 40K or so.

2 problems with that.

1. The local dealers will NOT honor the car's warranty. and
2. You would have to pay CASH for the car. No bank will finance a car not bought form a local authorized dealer.

She does kind of look like a C class, but much larger. and the inside looks like my stepmom's E 280. It also handles like an E class. but cost alot less.

As for the large V8s. I love them. I dont think they are the best, I've owned 2 eclipses and an RSX, the turbos on those cars (and the supercharger on the RSX) are amazing. but the raw power of the 6.7 liter charger is also amazing.

But I still want a Z the second I can get my hands on one. I think a 4.2 liter isnt out of the question in the 370Z.

Also, My fiance has threatened to HURT me with a camshaft if I dare even change the rims on this car. I can understand. I spent over 30K on my charger in performance parts, so it's irresponsible right now.

And who the hell buys a 370Z not meaning to mod the hell out of it? It's just asking for it.

Good call. Those things are badass. The son in the family I was living with in Oman had a lumina SS, so much fun.

Asheth 01-03-2009 01:58 AM

Thats the Holden based I was waiting to see what it looked like. I like the new design.

ultrablue 01-03-2009 03:35 AM

Before the charger, I had a 2002 Lumina SS. It was fast little thing. Same thing, just bigger and a bit nicer.

Yes, this is based on the Holden Caprice SS.
