How to get r32 skyline home from cali to utah
 

im having a dilemma right now. im trying to figure out the best way for me to get the r32 that im going to be purchasing home to utah from cali. the dealership i am buying from says that i will not be able to drive the car on california roads. so im trying to find out what my best option in the time frame that i have.

i dont know if california will offer temporary registration for that car so i can drive it back with the car insured of course. i dont know if i can get utah to issue me a temp reg so i can go pick it up and drive it back. the dealership made it seem like that might be an option. but i need more information.

another idea i was toying with was have a tow truck pick up the car and drop it off at my parents house until i find a better option to get it back. i dont have a trailer of my own nor do i know anyone that can help me take it to my parents. unless you cali guys know someone that might help.

and then there's auto transporting. i can try to find a company online but time is not on my side right now. i will only be in socal from sunday- thursday. i dont know if its too late notice to find a company that will do it and i dont know if they will be able to deliver it by thursday when i get back to utah. if they can pick it up monday and deliver, im also wondering if its possible to have them deliver it to my brothers house in the same city i live.

like i said, time is not on my side. i would love to know if anyone has any other suggestions and ideas on what i can do.

So... You don't need the car immediately... Why not have the dealer hold onto it and have a shipping company get it when they can?

First of all, I will find the source where it says that CA doesn't allow a RHD car to be driven on its roads. Also, find the regulations on the states you would travelling through about a vehicle in transit. I believe CA would let you drive a car without a plate for a while, or, if the car was registered in the state of CA, the plate stayed with the car anyway.

Secondly, to have it delivered to your parents' house is an option that I would have chosen if you couldn't be there to take delivery personally. I still think it's a bad idea not to be there to purchase and inspect a second-hand vehicle.

Lastly, as far as transportation goes, I wouldn't trust this car to an average open transporter. In general, an enclosed transporter usually is a better choice; it would be much more expensive, but it would be worth it for a car that's quite expensive to begin with. Personally, I would try to transport this myself, but I don't know you and your experience with a pickup truck/SUV and a trailer.

Now, having said all those, there is something to be gained about driving the car from CA to UT. I'd say it would be an adventure. Just make sure you have multiple contingency plans for the trip. It's not for me, I want the knowledge and the comfort of hauling the car home myself.

I had my car shipped from southern Florida to Indianapolis for $600. You can usually schedule a shipping pick up within a few days of when you need it picked up. All the shipper are connected to all the companies so its pretty easy to find someone to deliver it.

You could rent a pick up truck and car trailer from Uhaul one way from Cali to Utah for cheaper than a shipping company I would imagine. At least, that's where I would look first.

i was thinking of having the company hold onto it but the downside of that is i will be on vacation all of june. the company prefers not to hold the vehicle that long once its been bought

ill be there in person to inspect the vehicle and purchase it. im only having the dilemma of getting it off the dealer lot.

is there a specific company that you used or could recommend?

I guess I could probably get a truck and trailer it to Vegas and drive it the rest of the way.

does anyone know if i would need to have registration on the vehicle or run into some type of issue if i plan to leave the rental truck in vegas and drive the rest of the way to utah.

i dont remember who I used specifically but a quick google search will give like 100 brokers that are more than willing to help. Just make sure you dont pay any money up front. You will basically pay the broker like $100-$150 then pay the rest in cash to the driver. They are really good about communicating with all parties to ensure the car makes it safely.

License plate stays with the car in CA. Just drive it home if it's healthy enough.
