have u tried a closed wrench and large mallet? that would probably work too. just make sure you dont strike the wrench in the wrong direction. lol

Nope. Never though of trying that. Lefty loosy/righty tighty. Turn towards the passenger side to loosen the bolt is how I was taught. Never failed me on the Cobalt.

yah, it's pretty effective. especially while under a car with limited space. i do that when removing rusted exhaust fasteners as my impact sometimes breaks the bolt heads right off.


ummm... passenger side if the wrench handle is facing rear of the car. if forward of the car, that would be a nono..

The oil pan and bolt face head towards the rear of the car. I imagine working on the car like I'm standing under it at eye level. So the wrench should be rotated counter clockwise towards the passenger side to loosen.

best way is to put your ratchet in loosen-mode and double check before you go pounding your wrench with a mallet.

sometimes i get confused when im facing the bolt in reverse orientation at an odd angle while working on other things. this way it will know for certain which way to turn the breaker bar or wrench handle.
