Would Nissan kill the 370Z?
Nissan is on track to lose $2 Billion this year.
Honda pulled the plug on F1 (and the S2000) and Honda is profitable. The last time Nissan had massive losses like this, the Z was yanked. Say it ain't so, Nissan. |
considering around 9k of the 10k Z's that were shipped to the us were sold im not certain they will kill this project just yet.
|
With what iceman said, Nissan projected 30k Z and then backed off to 10k, they have now sold just over 10k 370z this year so they seem to know what they are doing. If anything were to go I would probably put money on the GT-R first and then the Z, and it might not be so much as the cars stopping production but they may limit it to Japan only to cut importing them down.
|
awesome, cut-em off....gimme some added value :rofl2:
but I agree, GTR will go away first for sure. Until that happens, I don't see the Z in any trouble. |
Z wont go away its what brought them back and is a steady seller and core product .. GTR isnt going anywhere either Nissan is due to release the R36 around 2013 to keep up with the 997TT replacement

^^good luck finding parts for the car if that happened over the years.

I don't worry about "what if's." I live in the present.

They should get smart and lower their prices a bit; that way, they would make less profit on each unit, but would sell a larger volume of vehicles. One of the pitfalls of capitalism, I guess.
It's all about lucre! |

Yep - It will be good for all the ppl who already have their Zs :p
|
yea, most of the cost of the car has already been spent. There might not be a next gen, but no reason to cut it now.
When the new 35mpg Cafe comes into play, thats a whole other story though. Even GM is saying the Vette may go hybrid. |

Sure technology may find a way, but you will likely soon pay a premium for performance. |
not necessarily it may mean that the sports cars go back to being sub 2500lbs just to meet emission standards. if the Z was <3k lbs it would easily get 35mpg on the highway

I just read in Autoweek that they are saying the next corvette may be a combination of hybrid/lighter/cylinder deactivation.

The Titan and Armada are beautiful trucks, but man did they put the screws to Nissan. Very bad timing. As for 35mpg CAFE, Nissan just announced four electric vehicles. That should keep the corporate CAFE up and hopefully keep the Z in the lineup.......... |

The thought of cylinder deactivation does not thrill me!
|
Boo for deadening cylinders. I need em' all.

This sounds like when the 350 came out

BTW, it's always been my understanding that until the C5 the Vette lost money. :twocents: |

Nissan was making a profit when the 350Z came out. Ford cut off the Edsel after 4 years, but Ford was a cash cow then - and Nissan just lost $2 Billion. We still bow to the King. :worship: |

mid to late 1950's there was an economic down turn

Just remember one thing. In the post war days Honda, Toyota, Nissan and the other Japaneses car were all subsidized by the Government for a very long time. If the truth be known they may very well still be. :twocents: |
Why are so many dumdf**ks buying suv's? what can't a normal sedan do that a suv can't? nothing.
|
The Z is one of their flagship cars.........it won't get pulled.
