Prospective 370Z owner - Coming from an STI

Hey guys,

Just wanted to drop a line and say what's up and get a feel of the forums.
I'm coming from a 2011 Subaru STI Sedan. At the time of purchase, it was either the 370z or the STi and I went with the latter.

I'm kind of bored of it now and wanted to step onto the other side of the field. A 370z is rare around here and you don't see them too often - part of the reason why I want one so bad.

Anyways - I know this would be a biased place to ask but, is it worth the change? Also a key thing to note would be that I would probably get a 2009 - I'm over buying new cars...
What are the major differences between the 2009 and 2012? Am I missing out on anything?

Here's a few pics of the STI as it sits today. I know it probably won't tickle everyone's pickle, but it's all good!

Man, that Scooby is cleeeean! I just stepped out of a Evo IX and into a 13 370z with sports package. I loved my Evo (had for 4 years), but I too got tired of it. The only two things I miss about it compared to the Z, are the seats and the razor sharp handling and steering response. I could sneeze, and the car would shoot over two lanes, just from the reaction! lol
The Z is far above all other aspects of the car though. Smooth linear power, good steering wheel feedback, great connection to the road, awesome styling, nice interior, ect...... All in all, a great car for the price!

Thanks!
I drove an Evo MR and GSR and they were alright as well. Fun because of boost but that's about it for me. The handling part was a plus, but it's not a determining factor for me.
The STI is fun because of the same reason. I regret not giving the 370z more of a chance before.

The interior of the 370z is far more superior than the STI - the alcantara pieces, the overall fit and finish is great. I love that.

I guess my biggest concern is getting a 2009 370z as opposed to the 2012. Were there any big changes? Anything that I should look for or be concerned about with "older" Nissans? I know only about Honda's and Subaru's haha

Slick STI!

I'd see if you can get behind the wheel of a z and see if it fits you. It's definitely a very different car than the scooby.

Welcome! that is a clean Subie, the 2012 have oil coolers, but if you are planning to track the OEM oil cooler will need to be replaced. Just browse around make friends and you will learn more about 370z then you ever knew!! :tiphat::tup::driving:

Thanks guys.

Well I sat in a 370z roadster in the show room last week. I know it's completely different than driving one, but I did love it. The feel is a lot more unique and modern than the STI.
The STI interior is pretty outdated.

Anything I should look for in a used 370z?

loose change or cellphones on the sides of the seats:tup:

im kidding lol...i bought a used 2009 Z myself with 25k miles. these cars are pretty reliable and i honestly dont think you have too much to worry about. the only issues I know of are the steering lock issues in the 2009 models. Ive had mine for over a year now without a single hiccup.

the previous owner was a 55 year old male so i wasnt too worried about the car being abused. that might be something you would want to look into.

Sway bars, oil cooler, intake, a nice exhaust and they car will be better than it is.

Watch for:
Oil consumption
Paint issues
Transmission issues

Plan to:
cut the wire on the steering lock once you buy it
buy an oil cooler if you have any intentions of spirited driving
have something else to drive in snow >3"
