Just got a 370z :(
Hi everyone,
Just picked up a used 2010 370z last weekend and noticed some loud noises from the tranny/clutch area when starting off in 1st gear and also when shutting the car off with the clutch out (no rattle noise when the clutch is pushed in and turned off). Figured a TO bearing or clutch chatter but had it checked at a local Nissan dealership to be sure. The tech thought the same thing but Nissan's tech line said to replace the transmission under warranty. Ok, cool but I still don't think the tranny is the issue.. I drove home from the dealership and got a call that my aunt who lives next door had a stroke so I came home, went to her house, got her purse and other needed info, then headed out for the hospital. Noticed on the way out of my driveway the clutch felt soft. A couple of gear changes later, the pedal was stuck to the floor. Had it towed to Nissan and I checked the clutch fluid to see if it was a CMC or CSC failure but the fluid was still full. So week one has been, interesting, to say the least. On a brighter note, my local dealership has been awesome even though I didn't get the car there and they have me in a new 2D Altima for my rental/loaner. They are still going to be replacing the transmission and I'm hoping the clutch issue will be covered under warranty too but service said we would have to see once it was apart for the tranny swap. So far, this dealership pretty much has earned my business for future service and a new car whenever I get another (almost traded the Z on a Maxima yesterday after their offer on my Z). |

extended warranty?
im pretty sure the previous owner abused the clutch. Definetly your throwout bearing and slave cylinder. GG!

Nissan said the transmission is covered under the 5yr/60,000m warranty. The clutch issue would have to be looked at once they had it apart for the tranny swap to determine the issue and see if it's covered under the warranty.
Clutch fluid was still full. |

Sounds like classic CSC to me...all cars can break, you could trade on the max and it breaks too,no car is perfect. Have then throw in a lightweight fw and new clutch while the trans is out!

Got the car back and at first the rattle had stopped. It's back again so back to service tomorrow! Also the fluid system had some air in it causing the clutch to stay to the floor but it's been resolved. Nissan included a throw out bearing and CDC with the transmission so I'm lost on why the car still has a rattle when turning the car off or when pushing in the clutch in first gear under a small load.

i think i know the sound u are talking about. i took mine to the dealer also and they didnt know what that sound was either and then one of the techs took me and cranked up a nismo 370 and it made the same sound just not as loud. so we were just guessing its the way the tranny is. i havent had any problems with mine yet and hopefully i wont. good luck trying to find out what it is.

ummm my 2012 also has the clutch rattle/ chatter starting slow in first from 0 mph, and reverse. It's very annoying and my car only has 2400 miles. Some told me in the pass that this was normal. I made a post about it before. |
