My First Z

Sup guys,

My name is Ling... hence the screen name "lingling1211" lol... and I'm from Arlington, Va.

I just got a used Red 2010 370z base w/ sports package last Friday. My first manual car and I live in an urban area with a decent amount of hills :/ (any tips on starting on a hill would be awesome lol).

I'm happy to be apart of this forum, I came here for a lot of helpful information before purchasing my Z

As for clutching on hills, it just takes practice. Learn, on a flat open area, where your clutch grabs, and get good at finessing the throttle just right. So that the clutch grabs and the throttle you add simply pulls forward as opposed to burning the clutch or lurching forward. It really is all about practice.

I remember in Driver's Ed, we had to stop the car going uphill, and then start going again. I always got it first try, because I had been practicing with my parents for a while. One of the guys in my car killed it 32, yes I counted, 32 times before he finally made it up.

When I was younger and learning how to drive manual my dad taught me to hold the e-brake up on hills and slowly release the clutch and gas until I felt the clutch grabbing then slowly lower the e-brake. It helps with not freaking out that you're going to roll backwards and hit the guy behind you which in turn helps you focus.

awesome congrats!! and welcome. When I got the Z it was also my first MT, I used the e-brake on hills till getting used to.

The Z was my first manual also. The e-brake trick works well when you're still learning, once you get comfortable with rolling back slightly, you won't need it. It's a bit nerve racking when you're just starting out, but with practice, you'll get there. I still use the e-brake trick sometimes when idiots behind me are pull within inches of my rear bumper.
