It goes without saying.
I was bored here at work and Googled 370Z vs. XXXX, and Road and Track compared it to a Porsche Caymann. I guess it's implied that a Z-car is a "poor man's Caymann." Fine with me. The Z car, but more specificallythe Z-32 twin turbo, was my dream car back in high school (but couldn't afford its nearly $40K price). I hit a "Caymann club" link analagous to this website, and read most of the comments by its members. Boy, am I impressed. The majority of the people demonstrate netiquette Cayman S vs. 370Z - Planet Porsche and don't turn their nose up at a car that's about 1/2 the price of a Caymann. It goes without saying, that when you attain a higher status in life, it polishes your essence while manifesting culture.
By the way, I live in an affluent suburb (Palos Verdes peninsula) where $100,000+ cars driving around aren't rare i.e. Porsches, Ferraris, Lambos, etc., and I can't believe that people who drive current model 911's do double-takes on my 370. Whether they think it's hot/ugly doesn't influence me. But I notice the people who start crap are the spoiled high school kids who drive Lexus IS-F's, EVO's, STI's and sadly, GT-R's (us Nissan drivers shouldn't rev on each other, it's childish ). |
Planet Porsche (recent forum name change as it was just a Cayman forum) is a great forum. The owner of the forum is like AK, well-intentioned, and liked by every member. You will find that a "true" enthusiast does not care about brands, etc. They are more excited, and interested about machines that have wings, wheels, engines or not.

It's refreshing to read threads such as the one on the Porsche forum. Too often do threads on forums turn into my car vs _____ pissing contests. |
I was at a light in McLean a couple weeks ago with a Vanquish and an orangeish Murcielago. I was checking them out and they were checking me out. Pretty cool.

I admire how the Porsche people admit the 370 is car you can't take lightly. Most of them acknowledge the fact that a "Nissan" can, especially a GTR, can compete with the best Porsche can offer.
Several years back, I had a coworker whose family was pretty loaded, and uhh...he drove a Ferrari 360 Modena when they first came out. He used to laugh at people who drove those "noisy but slow Mitsubishi's" in his words. Then one day I heard he raced a R-32 Skyline, and the "noisy but slow 'Mitsubishi' " spanked his $200k+ car. He sheepishly claimed that he didn't want to "wrap his Ferrari around a tree." LMFAO! |
I test drove Cayman S before I bought my 370Z. It's a decent car, Nissan will not be matching Porshe's finese any time soon. I thought it should be offering a lot more for the money. After Nissan ran my credit, they pitched me the GTR. I still chose Z.
